  • hans blix - good luck wiv the tyres dude. conti ultra sport :S

  • I thought the same... then maybe he's mostly on the track or no need to skid as the county is totally flat?

  • Huh, what's wrong with the tyres? I can skid with these.

  • Don't you find the rear holes through after a few rides?

I'd try fitting a Top Contact if it'll fit.

  • What exactly do you mean? Not following, sorry. Prolly going for a different set when I wear these out, though. Don't like them in the wet.

  • They are really cheap and nasty.

  • Race tyres (like those you've fitted) will grip alright... but they won't last very long if you ride brakeless on the street and skid.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious.

  • They are really cheap and nasty.

Your thinking of Ultra Sport ?

These are Ultra Race, and aren't complete shit. :D

  • Yeah the ultra sport on ^that^ bike oop there. Anything but those.

  • Ah, okay. Well i've only been riding fixed gear for about 6months, so I haven't got that much experience on different tyres. My pal told me they were okay, and he's been riding fixed gear alot langer than I have.

What would you guys recommend as my next tyre set? (bang for buck)

  • What are they (Sport or Race)?

Fit a Top Contact when that rear is done.

  • They are sport, gatorskin.

Top Contact. Alright, i'll look into those. Thanks!

  • Or Vittoria Randonneour.

  • Ultra Sport are really shite. Gatorskins are ok on the front. Have another look to see exactly what you're running.

You'll want a combination of a grippy front tyre (Maxxis Refuse/Continental Gatorskin) and a hard wearing rear tyre (Top Contact/Vittoria Randonnuer).

  • Ultra Sport Gatorskins x2.

What's the biggest difference between for an example the Ultra Sport Gatorskin and a Top Contact? Are they just thicker? I really hope they're not that thick, because they probably wont fit. :|

Thanks for all the info, though. Def trying out another tyre when these wear out.

  • Ok. In the UK Gatorskins are labelled Ultra Gatorskin. And Ultra Sport are a different (shite) tyre. We don't have a Ultra Sport Gatorskin as far as I know.

It's probably worth looking over these threads about using touring tyres on the rear >>>

    Vittoria

Old thread on skidding on tyres

You might need an extra link in your chain for some of these tyres to fit. They're mostly 28s.

  • Nice wheels dude Justin (Fanfarlo).

  • Oliver - ^ Wait till the GardenWeb dudes see this ^ :D

thats defo in the "shrubs and potted plants" porn thread...

    Max - take note ...

neg rep for the untidy hose tho...H&S nightmare...

    Hmmm ... I don't know, somehow I don't rate the blue plastic container. ;)

  • Ultra Sport are really shite.

I'm still astounded by my pair of Ultra Shit lasting 6 months without puncture! netherless they're shit.

You'll want a combination of a grippy front tyre (Maxxis Refuse/Continental Gatorskin) and a hard wearing rear tyre (Top Contact/Vittoria Randonnuer).

1+, greatest amount of control that way.

  • twickenham riders out there
met a dude on a orange bob jackson think you were form around twicks way ! my bike was stolen last week " the giant bowery " now on a charge plug stock..

  • To max72,nice clean lines!!!,I bet it don't weigh much.Do you actually take this out into the concrete jungle, or just ride it around you palatial home?.Do you carry an Anchor on your trouser belt to aid in emergency stops. For greater standing/stationary balancing acts as in the old days of track racing & at the traffic lights(YES WE DID OBSERVE THE HIGHWAY CODE)(1 FRONT BRAKE FOR ROAD USE)try some traditional leather shoes, nail on plates & toe clips with straps tight.Safe and enjoyable riding to you.

  • Hi to blix,is the bucket beneath the machine because you have just performed a liquid ballast change change,it looks light enough to blow away if left unattended.Do you have a front brake attached with Velcro when out on the highway,it might create the illusion that it is street legal!!!.

  • +1 to the admiration for Blix's ride

  • Brass nipples are fine...with silver spokes - aesthetically wrong with black spokes and rims

    Rattlecan in black and HTFU!

  • Hi to dbnyc, nice fixed wheel. It takes me back to the days of my 1937 Hetchins Curly(when I rode Fixed Wheel)and only one brake(on the front)The cranks you have on your bike might well strike the floor if you are an around time speed queen.Check the TIPPED OVER clearance with the pedal at its lowest point,Flight with the bike between your knees and strapped in/on is not funny, and definitely is painful on impact!!!.Shorter cranks(I use 140mm with a 52:42:32 chain ring set up)I can't ride fixed any more(metal left knee) and a reduction of one or two teeth on the sprocket will increase your candence and be less prone to incidents & a ride home in an ambulance via the hospital.Oh by the way I gave up looking for a machine that I could stand over(I couldn't stand the laughter and 12" wheels were not on!!!).I am only 4' 10&1/2 with a 23&1/2 inside leg.I ride a big boys bike, but sometimes get dizzy so high in the air,but at least I can see through the traffic now.HAPPY & SAFE RIDING TO YOU.
