Yeah, my next thing to do was check the pedals, its driving me insane, and the chainring is attached to the crank arm by screwing into the bottom of the crank near the axle so no chainring bolts. i may even go so far as a new crank set... well new/used but still. the whole thing feels a bit week. thanks though, i am off to fiddle with the pedals
