The idea of a celeste bike has gone very stale sinsce I phoned Italian Soloutions yesterday and asked for some decals, for the Dolan I have done ,Terry himself answered the phone and gave me a load of abuse and i have never delt with such a rude person I have three Dolan bikes I use myself and to be honest I felt like taking a hammer to all of them.

    What? Why?

  • What? Why?

I think the upshot is he sells his complete bikes for about 600 quid and frames for anything upto 1,200 and at the moment there are a lot of grey market Dolan frames around on ebay I know have bought a few, so if it's not the right colour just get it powdercoated job done track frame below half the price he sells them for,I even got my cycle cross frame from Ribble cycles for 112 quid, and they were doing Dolan track cheap as well,i cant see the problem putting his name on his bikes,he can and he told me so in no uncertain terms.
If he wants to keep his frames high end and exclusive he should not bulk sell them or let them on the free market.

    Ask Tony Bell

Dolan is a design, sticker and paint outfit; frames are made elsewhere. May be the Taiwanese factory is shifting a few out the back door

  • This would be my belt driven steed of choice. Overall I think belt drives are a great idea, real innovation where most would not even considder that a change was needed.

I would fit one to my Rohloff equiped bike, but you need an opening into the rear triangle to fit the belt through, you cant break it like a chain.

  • It's funny that people see belt drives as new...Jericho cycles made one at least a decade ago.
Almost all the technological leaps in cycling over the past 20yrs have come from the MTB scene....from the use of new tubing materials and construction techniques to combined shift/brake levers on road bikes...it was the MTB that pushed things forward in cycling. Road bikes especially had barely changed in 50yrs before the MTB became popular.
    Viva la MTB! :)

  • i love nicholais mmmmmm

  • So if this really takes off can I expect to be woken at 6am on a frosty November morning to the sound of someone's fan belt belt drive slipping?

that's Terry mate, he's always like that!

  • that's Terry mate, he's always like that!

I suppose thats what makes him a right cxxt then.

  • I will never, ever, ever concede that belt drive is superior to chain. This is exclusively on the basis that the Trek has bosses for a coffee cup.

This may be a ridiculous and ill considered basis, but Im ok with it. All belt drives for me are now tainted with coffee flavoured stupidity.

  • If you have chance could you take a photo of the cog/freewheel please?

How does it fit onto the hub. I would've assumed it would be like a standard freewheel but your closeup photomakes it look like there's a fixed gear style lockring?

I hope they haven't come up with a propriety hub to use their belt drive cogs.
Looks like a standard Hope Pro 2 hub to me.

Spaced the same way as a usual mountain bike SS conversion kit runs.

  • don't want to ruin the excitement but... I have seen two in Berlin, right in front of bikeshops... last week. so I guess there's way more than 3 outside of the usa.

  • Saw one of these on my way to work today. It seemed ok and was quite silent.
