  • Frame bags are ace. As daccordi says, they have been used on snow bikes and off road touring for years. I'd be keen on getting one at some point too. some of the really funky ones flare out to about 3 or 4 inches wide at the front and then have another small bag on top of the top tube that velcros to the main bag, which is ace if you want a large volume.

    Scott, the one downside of the frame bag is that you lose any ability to carry water on the bike (if your bike ever had bottole bosses) and water bottles can move around a lot in a frame bag which can be disconcerting. This isn't an issue for off road use because people are usually using Camelbaks, but if you don't want to carry a rucksack...

    That bag width doesn't look like it should cause ay real problems, IMO.
