Recommendations: Designed as puncture resistant
Lightest - Specialized All Condition Pro "QuickStep"
Strongest - Maxxis ReFuse, Specialized Roubaix Armadillo Elite,
Fastest - Vredestein Fortezza Quattro Tricomp
Best Value - Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase,G,
just a little snag,
in the wrong category. Was also wondering in your list where the brackets are could you copy and paste to a post that details the tyre a little more (http://www.londonfgss.com/post176069-27.html)
or... dont bother cos thats way too much work.

contiGP4000 in colour crosses the line up front followed close, but always second, by the gatorskin in the back. fast, grippy combo, they seem to be not too cut up after the first 250mi so far, lets see ... oh and i don't skid ... so much, in fact i try not to stop at all really, but them pesky red lights ... nvm

• #329
Is that a recommendation after 250 miles?
;-)

geeeeeeeeez, my front gatorskin, has done well over 2k, without a puncture

Ray, I'll have a good look at your suggestion this weekend......plus, correction made.

Except the correction is the wrong way round!
Fortezza Quattro are fast rolling tyres in the " Designed as slightly puncture resistant" category.
Fortezza Quattro are not fast rolling tyres in the "Designed as lighter, fast training, or race tyres" category. (They're neither the fastest of the group, nor are they really designed as race tyres!).
~2500 miles down the line with zero punctures and minimal wear - and running Rubino Pros on another bike simultaneously, which serves as a useful benchmark - I'm even more of the opinion that these are top-of-the-bunch when it comes to fast-yet-durable-and-good-value tyres.
Same price as Rubino Pros (plus or minus a little, depending on the deal).
Same wear characteristics. (minimal cuts, minimal loss of trear, no squaring off)
Same level of puncture resistance (i.e. excellent for most conditions, but not bulletproof).
Same light-ish weight.
Better grip in the wet.
Nicer feel in the corners.Sorry to be pedantic, but given this is a definitive list, wouldn't want people to get the wrong idea :-)

Courant, I thank you.
I'll amend shortly.
EDIT:
I've moved them to a recommendation of Stronger, but still in the fast-race section.
I'll accept what the manufacturer says about its product, as not dishonest.

they are not mentioned for a reason

if you run a brake I'd recommend the standard 23 spesh amadillo on both wheels, i couriered on these for 8 months without a puncture.
Brakeless, keep the amadillo on the front and throw a continental TOPcontact 28 on the rear. 3 months in and i havent had a puncture, although I have had to revert to my filthy fakenger ways...

Just ordered some 700x23 Ultra Gatorskins for the flyer. My other half has had some on her road bike and they seem to be doing well on there...
-
• #338
I've got a 23 Ultra Gatorskin front (it's done about 1500 miles) and a 28 Top Contact rear (only done about 220 miles). Seems ok, so far puncture free, can't comment on skidability 'cos I can't skid for shit (although I keep trying). The Gators do cut up though, as others have said. I think I'm still looking for my winning tyre combo. Gonna try a Maxxis Refuse front and a Rubino Pro rear, both 23c next.
Peace

No one talks about Krylion Carbons? The best combination of puncture resistance and ride quality I've come across - haven't tried Maxxis mind you.

They do if you actually read the page.

I'm getting so many punctures in my Conti SPORTS. Are they renound for being shit on he road. I'm almost thinking about these TOP CONTACT things but they look a bit intense.
Any comments?
-
• #343
the grip on the top contact is almost like a knobbly - dont think i'd use it up front but it's perfect on the back if you're brakeless

Hyper Randonneurs look good. 350 grams and if as resistant to punctures as the other randos then it will be a great tyre (and only £21 at Parkers). Pretty slick tread as well but 32c is smallest (again 350g is very light for a 32c puncture resistant tyre) so most people won't be able to squeeze them in.

I've got Rubino's front and back. When it's sunny they are very fast and sweet, when it rains I tend to shit myself quite a lot on my daily commute across Brxls. Ordered a couple of Schwalbe Marathons, they look a lot more sensible for the winter. Hopefully, I don't slide under a tram before they arrive.
I got a question, I read that bike tyres don't require treads like car tyres do. So how come my Rubi's feel like I've lubed them up in the wet?

The cheap Rubinos have a higher plastic content or harder/less grippy rubber to make them last longer.

I have been using the Schwalbe Marathon Plus for the last 3 years for my daily commute (15miles) - massive improvement on the Nibus Armidillo... I get apprx 1500 miles out of th back tyre which is not bad for a 19st lump on top of my bike... Bugger to get on and off but the volume of punctures has been so minimal it has not mattered.

Thanks for the link Hippy. I've read a fair bit on Sheldon's site, tho I hadn't seen this.
blush you're right they were cheap... I think they look the nads tho :)

Rubino Pro look the same and have better grip.
Are the Soma Everwear directional?
