Are'nt axle bolts about 5mm? (assuming your going from 120 to 135)
one each side might be a better bet than loads of washers.
I think the standard chainline for MTBs (outer chainring) is 52mm. So like The Brick says, this might be your biggest obsticle. Although I would'nt say its impossible.
