  • Here's the route that I've roughly been doing to London from Cambridge recently. It's pretty quiet for most of it but with more uphills on the return (London to Cambridge) journey I think.

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2878251

This one on the map is pretty much the most direct and easiest route that I know of.

I'm pissed that I'm going to be away for this considering how many people and going to riding up to our fair city.

I like this route (mostly country roads) anyone wanna memorize it?

  • I will reproduce the one Corny posted on mapmyride and will put in my gps so it can bleep at us when we need to turn etc.. I'll get an OS tour map as well.

    And hopefully I won't cancel!

  • okaywithmydecay, the ride is as long as it takes usually start at 9.30, end anywhere between three and five depending on speed, mechanicals, water breaks, enjoy the fair, get train back. Speak to objext/plagarist about riding back, I'm not planning to.

  • there are also a few people willing to take some folks in for the night if they miss the last train back i think.

We'll also arrange a safe place to lock up the bikes if needed, unless people are going to nurse them there all the time with you.

Currently there are three of us planning on the ride back but I should warn you were all going to be geared as were using is at training for the Dynamo&Back.

I would expect it'll be a couple of pints & food before we turn around. Call it an hour between arrival & departure.

  • start at 9.30, end anywhere between three and five.

Blimey, it ain't really going to take us 5.5hrs to do 70miles is it? Not even with Pub stops.....

[wanders off, packs away Gel Packs and Lycra]

  • If I can finish this freelance work tonight I'd be up for it. Don't intend to cycle back but would I need to buy a return train ticket in advance?

  • If I weren't riding to Suffolk with my brother on saturday then I would have joined you guys.. My bro and I are probably leaving earlier but will be going the same route until Epping (so basically no the same route)

    Enjoy

  • By the way, I highly recommend we do the Chipping, Gt Dunmow, Thaxted, Saffron Walden Route....much prettier I think. (about 10miles further but that should be no stress)

  • ^^^ that would take us along the same roads for a bit.. I might leave some breadcrumbs for you guys to follow

  • Edited the Opening Post. Please read and be aware.

Jung, if you know the route, and want to adjust, depending on time, strength of riders, then gmap/bikely away and we'll follow..

Okay Strawberry Fields Cambridge Ride info

We'll need to then ride from hyde park corner out to east london, to head towards epping...

Mashton said this might be a good way to end the ride...
one comment on the route: near the end you are by great shelford and there is a very cool cycle path from there to addenbrookes hospital that runs next to the railway line. totally off road with a lovely surface. it is painted in 4 different coloured stripes, representing (A G C T) and it spells out one of the genes mapped in the human genome project.
