I used the Direct Gov/DVLA "check if this vehicle has road tax" site- I think it's meant to be used if you are considering buying a vehicle.
No matter if the area has CCTV- and it almost certainly does- the police can now make a real time inquiry of the ANPR cameras that are all over London due to the congestion charge.
If they want to they can confirm if that vehicle was on the outer circle at that time.

I'm glad you seem to be ok- but get yourself to the Docs ASAP, and get a friendly mechanic to check the bike over and give you a report on the damage/costs of fixing said damage in case the driver is caught.
Failure to stop/hit and run is pretty serious in terms of an offence, certainly where injury is sustained.
I'd contact the police whom you made the report to and say that you think it might be the number plate that Sam-W discovered- at least they can discount that car if it was not the one, and it might help...
