there is the all important aspect of aesthetics
Aesthetics are personal, therefore go with what you prefer, there is no need to seek peer approval.
-
• #3
Also depends a good deal on what you're going to be using the bike for, I'd have thought.

Pink Aerospok on the front with a black H+ super deep radially laced to a black Phil hub on the back. I assume its getting risers Rolls saddle too?
-
• #5
roger that, I'm all for value...
-
• #6
No Aerospoke's! It's going to be used for road and track - although no serious racing.
Therefore I'm edging towards the Phil/Mavic set. Is this likely to be a lot more comfortable/softer?
-
• #7
open pros and da's not phil's !
well built and long lasting -

b4 crzyjames says it. 48H goldtecs onto 48h grizzlies
-
• #9
DA track hubs? I'd still go for Phils over them.
But it's all about budget constraints in 09 so Open Pro with On-One/Formula/Sys-X
Nah, chrome HF Phils on CXP33 -
• #10
If I were spending the sort of money that Phils cost, I'd be sorely tempted to have Royces instead.

Aesthetics ? Whats the budget ? These wheels say "Fuck you" & "Eat Shit" at the same time.

Failing that I'd go Planet X carbon track - awesome VFM, and would set your ride off a treat

so perfectly put. its sad that many want to be assured of a pat on the back when they 'rock up'
always buy what you like because there will always be a possee that think its not cool enough, but if deep down you like it you inside you wont feel like a ___________________ insert appropriate word or phrase

Ha!

Nah I'm not seeking peer approval - I just can't decide myself! I'm a halfway house atm between the pistas and the phils...
Someone said DAs... Are these better than Phils?
Also - Cranks... I was going to go for a DA track set but I was thinking of something a bit different, maybe along the lines of a Middleburn set. Are these comparable in quality?
-
• #17
Middleburn cranks flex a lot (supposedly)
Surely if you are buying hubs, money no object, it has to be Royce?
-
• #18
Why are Royce better than Phil? I have never seen them in the flesh - but they do look sweet!
-
• #19
Also - Cranks...
If Chris Hoy can transmit 2KW+ power through these without flex, I'd say Sugino were the way to go

Listen to dicki. Dura ace on open pro. You will be here all day with opinions, just trust me.
-
• #21
is it purely for track riding?
-
• #22
DA's are lighter... just a guess.

I am with Tom. Royce are oft overlooked as they don't seem to advertise as much but I have to say I fell in love with them the first time I saw them.. I love Royce, they will be the next hubs i buy for my mercian

Silver Phils on some silver Mavic cxp's would look really nice imo.
But as others have said, what ever floats your boat my friend.
I am about to purchase one of these babies: http://www.bikeradar.com/gallery/article/burls-titanium-18294?img=2&pn=titanium&mlc=gear%2Fbikes%2Ftrack%2Farticle
But I'm not sure which wheels to go for...
Do I either go for the Phil Wood on Mavic Open pros
OR
Campagnolo Pista?
I know both are good wheelsets, with the Phil's producing the softer ride. BUT, there is the all important aspect of aesthetics - do I go for the deep profile rim or the shallow mavics?
Thoughts appreciated!
