Dammit, I have those MKS 8mm kickin about somewhere....yours for a princely fee?
-
• #1228
Whatchoo talking about Willis? Chain tug size is related to the width of the dropouts. So 5 mm for steel frames and 8 mm for chunky aluminium frames.
Correct sir however I assumed that the question was specifically related to the tug nuts posted on the various BMX sites that do different sizes based on the diameter of the axle.
Apologies for not making that clear.
Hmm. Perhaps I have confused bunnysquasher.
Dang.

Sounds good to me- how princely were you thinking?
-
• #1230
You don't need them, just tighten the nuts properly.
bang on! haven't use one for ages. no probs or slippages
and i think condor do them singulary (mks)

They only come as a pack of 'one' so burger and a pint on Monday?
-
• #1232
Sounds fair to me, any chance of picking the little bugger up before then?

never used chain tugs. makes getting the wheel off a pain in the ass.
-
• #1234
Thankfully I have solid rubber tyres so never get p_nct_r_s.
No need to remove the wheel for months at a time.

I'm a) lazy and b) trying to track down which part is at fault for my chainline being as straight as a corkscrew.
I've just changed the rubbish sprocket it came with to a Dura-Ace, the chain is going to get swapped tomorrow for a KMC 710, that just leaves me with the chain-ring, which is rather more expensive.
I thought a chain-tug would help tension the chain efficiently so I could cross incorrect tension off the list.
i will never understand this. This "chainline compatibility" is a meme which has spread through this forum. You guys have an entire thread on it. it's remarkable.
just move the hub and re-dish the wheel. it takes about 30 minutes for a monkey to do.
and chain tugs have nothing to do with this.

Are you David Blunkett? It takes a human around 30sec....

Jersey- it's an Off the Peg (or OTP as it tends to be referred to on here).
Thus the chainline should be dead straight, but isn't.
Hence I am trying to track down which part is derailing what should be a lovely straight chain.
I think it's the fault of the sprocket, and also that the chain has worn unevenly due to the paucity of thought involved when Fuji specified said sprocket.
Ergo I do not believe that I should have to redish a track wheel/hub to get a decent chainline with a track crank.

• #1238
How does re-dishing a wheel effect your chainline?
Surely the chainline is the relationship between the cog on hub and chainring on BB. Am I being a div or is someone up there talking shit?
-
• #1239
I think Jersey means respace the hub and redish the wheel so as to move the position of the sprocket relative to the chain ring.
I missed out saying respace the hub in my post above because of my aforementioned laziness.

Surely you mean, US GUYS, as you yourself are part of this forum?
-
• #1241
Hmmm, sounds like a stupid plan. Surely one would just buy the right size BB
-
• #1242
a chain tug is not going to effect the chainline at all., only make your chain tighter
-
• #1243
I am aware of that Murtle, but it should help rule out incorrect chain tension as being one of the reasons, non?
-
• #1244
Is it an Izumi chain? Mine was noisy as hell. Changed for a KMC and its fine now.
-
• #1245
non.
-
• #1246
KMC chain on there.
-
• #1247
hmmm.... well, I think based on this information we can discount the possibility of the noise being caused by an Izumi chain.
Is there a playing card pegged to your seat stays?
-
• #1248
Why a playing card? Spoke card? Birthday card? Get well soon card? Could be any of those

Behold my terrifying chain line:
This is with the old Formula sprocket in place, which is not quite 1/8th yet not quite 3/32nd.

Aroogah, no worries. I have safely digested all the info and am wiser for it. Its nice to know there are some helpful forummers about. I have brought a pair of wheels from Graham Weigh, at what used to be Deeside Cycles - brilliant shop for track gear. When they come I will measure the axle diameter and buy tugs to suit. :)
The MKS looks stronger to me- more of a resolved design, whilst the Ciara ones look a little too pimp for me.
I'd be interested in seeing them in the metal though, might revise that opinion.
