if you're still annoyed by the lack of 'film' (as in colour that using film often give) option of the DSLR, then this is for you;
That looks pretty good, but IMO it's not good enough to justify the cost, especially when you can download some photoshop actions from the Studio Exchange site for free that do exactly the same thing. For instance I'm a big fan of the Film FX & Grain Simulator. It's got some good cross processing effects, a holga simulator, lith print effects and a really nice effect called Corbijn Polachrome. Worth looking at if you haven't already.

Blimey it more expensive than I remember, I only paid £75 a while back.
personally I don't like those Holga simulator and all that bollocks, it's a bit, cheating I suppose, don't worry about owning an actual Holga, just take a snap and run it though that simulator! easier and lazier.

Holga simulator!
That is cheating.
Why not just go in Getty Images and get your pics while your at it!
-
• #355
Getty is too expensive. iStock is better value. ;-)
I agree though that the Holga simulator is probably taking it too far, and I've never used it other than playing about, but I still like the cross processing, lith, infrared etc effects in that action set. It's no more a cheat than using that Alienskin set. Essentially it's all just using filters and colour balancing to reproduce the look of specific films or prints.

Pretty much, after all, photo that come out straight from a digital camera can look quite dull, however;
if your photo look boring/crap, no amount of editing, plug-in, etc. will make it look interesting, it's still be a boring/crap photo.
that's one thing I hate about those HDR being abused to fuck, *"ooh that look so cool!" "the effect is amazing!", *but it's still a boring as fuck photo with interesting filter added to it.

HDR makes my eyes bleed.
Can anyone recommend me a cheap and decent 35mm scanner under£100. I'm not looking for something both AMAZING and cheap because that's just silly. But something that can give me a decent resolution, 1024x768 kind of thing? -
• #358
oh my gawd, a reasonable question, this is surely an internet first
i was thinking about medium format scanners of a similar quality described f anyone wants to relieve themselves of some knowledge -

i just found a Carl Zeiss Ikon camera helping my step mom with a clear out, its got a 50mm f2 lens so I'm guessing its from the very late 1950's or early 1960's. its in working order, and apperas presise, I'm going to give it a clean, and load it with some triX and see what I get.
I also found my frist SLR, a minolta XG-M, changed the bateries, and it seems to work. I'll post some pics of the Zeiss Ikon if tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Chris that XG-M is nice. Hard to find lenses for it, but if you ever do, I think they'll be good ones.
I used an X-700 before switching to an Olympus Om1. Both were excellent. The Minolta felt sturdier. -

I used an X-700 before switching to an Olympus Om1.
I'm an OM series nerd. OM1, 2, 3, 4 and 10 sitting in various boxes at home. My dad gave me one of his OM1s when I was about 10 and I've not stopped. They still produce some of my favourite images.

FUCK.
Just missed out on a really cheap vivitar ultra wide slim camera..they're grossly inflated now, named "the poor man's LCA"...
I've decided to put a handbrake on my film spending too. Just stocked up on more cheap film and that's it for me..I shoot too much shit stuff and waste it all on film!

Ouch, I went through 25rolls of MF yesterday. The first few rolls were like firing pound coins into the sea. I've got to keep telling myself to not worry about how much it costs.
Then again, film pisses on digital.

Here's a badly scanned recent xproed sensia 100 roll :)
-
• #365
Anyone know anywhere in central that sells rolls of 120 film at a reasonable price?
-
• #366
Calumet & the Photographers Gallery in Soho both have a half decent selection usually, but i doubt they are the cheapest.
i allways buy online unless i need it last minute.... which you obviously have to pay for! -
• #367
Jacobs on New Oxfors St is a good one, opposite the Jessops there but loads cheaper. I'm sure they'll do it.
-
• #368
Honestly mate, try and order them online, they're a lots cheaper like at 7dayshops, or ebay (I brought 5 rolls of medium format for £10 not long ago, work out £2.50, reasonably cheap).
-
• #369
I've got 6 rolls of Kodak Ectachrome from 1969 that you CAN'T have! ;)

Not been for a while but Silverprint in Waterloo always used to be reasonable.
Now anyone know anywhere reasonable to get B&W film processed cheaply? It seems to have gone through the roof recently...
-
• #372
all processing is expensive these days.
it's a bummer.
i guess i need to learn how to do it myself... but that involves expensive equipment i dont have, and a darkroom that i dont have.
-
• #373
Processing isn't expensive you just need a dev tank, chemicals and a dark place. Literally a dark place...not somewhere you go to after listening to My Chemaical Romance.
It's the printing bit where you need a lot of equipment......it's the time I haven't got. Can't be arsed to scan them in after i've developed them..

Latest... shot on potra 160 VC ( starting to really like this film )

I'm not going to bother using the fucking search. It's just not me.
So. Question for the patient: Where do you boys and girls develop 35mm slides?
I've got a few rolls of velvia and provia I want first developed and scanned at mid-res and then possibly printed.
Preferably north or central. I'm after somewhere small and reliable that I can use again and again like a lab I used to go to in Brighton which sadly closed down.
ummm.. yea.. i dont really give out my number.
i just wanna sit here.. and enjoy the forum.. like.. alone..
the classifieds are about to start.......
