  • why don't you put back the original part? (front rack especially) they look fantastic!

if I were you, finished it up, put back part like the chainguard, front rack, mudguard etc. and then cycle to work and lock that bike outside work - sit back and enjoyed the slight confusion from the guys at the recycling depot.

  • i plan on putting the racks back on but the chrome on them is really rusty, so i'm going to clean them up first. the chain guard is really bent so i am goin to try to bend it back into shape without messing up the paint then put that back on too.

    rack:

i'm also tryin to polish up the little raleigh bell :)

  • Just got this from my grandad...

found it in his shed :)

  • That's nice Gina - it's got some good parts on it too... I'm still hoping I'll find something like that in my Nan's shed, although she didn't have a shed last time I was there so I'm hoping against hopes.

  • Nice Gina, looks ready to go......?

  • Hi this is the dry build of my 1st fixed gear - 1974 Carlton (Continental i think?)

    before:/attachments/10099

    after:/attachments/10100

Soonish its going for respray - a light blue. Having trouble finding decals - going to contact Argos. Let me know if anyone has any other suggestions (NOT hlloydcycles I have looked at the list - going to contact them direct).

The clotter cranks were a bitch - as was one side of the BB - thanks to everyone who gave advice. Unfortunately I had to take it to LBS for the BB (Cyclesurgery off Pettycoat lane - really helpful).

The only prob now is that when I went to put the seatpost back it was too tight! I think the one it came with (25.4mm) was wrong. When I measured the seat tube originally I worked it out as 25.14322mm - so I just assumed I was wrong.

On SB site there are a couple of 25.0mm - is this what i should be going for?

I take it its a really bad idea to try and hammer the old post back?

Also I put a KMC chain on - it snapped (I think i f'd up the magic link). Anyway the chain line looks straight. - is this a massive school boy error? Do i need to measure it all up properly - it road ok?

    Any advice/comments/etc welcome.

  • Picked this up today from Liverpool. Had hoped to ride it home from the train station but it came with a flat and hardly working brakes so it was a long trudge back to Hackney from Euston! Going to fix it up now with bits and pieces I've got lying about. Anyone want some TT bars?!

  • New project:

  • dat iz lik supa sik man.
dos boyz frm clapham r gnna b liek, fk diz shit, dat boi gots dem mad skillz.

  • wot grips you puttin' on all dem bars?

  • a more useful translation of the my prior post:
Dear me old chap, that is quite a mode of transportation. Our chums lord Eggberton and Sir Cartwright are going to be quite taken aback by such a vehicle and describe the rider as some sort of infinitesimal demi-deity.

  • wot grips you puttin' on all dem bars?

    ourys, blates.

It's gonna be called Gan's Well Slow

  • u no dat!

  • @ Spaghooops - Thanks dude. I'm going fixed on this one but was planning on transferring the gruppo to another frame. What are you interested in - the shifters or dereailleurs or both?

@ Eddie - the TT bars are the type that bolt underneath standard bull bars for that aero tuck. These aren't an all in one stealth type jobbie. PM me if you're interested and we'll sort something.

Also is anyone interested in that back wheel? Campag record hub on Fir SuperRialto Grid rim. I'd not heard of these rims before but they sound helluva fancy and have nice shiny 43mm walls...

  • I've had this Specialized Rockhopper kicking around for a while, can't really use it as there is no mud in London's famous London. Building it up with new wheels from a paddy wagon and some riser bars and stuff with a view to sell on to some Trixie wannabie type man.

  • build for a mate.
    leader 735tr
    leader 1806tr carbon fork
    48/18

my mate i built it for was probably the only person inspired by that pic of the roided guy in the gym holding his leader above his head..

my first proper build, many thanks to loads of folks on this forum and odge at 14 for his advice.
not my cup of tea at all really, but still think it looks pretty cool in a brutish sort of way.
still need to either drill the fork or get a new drilled fork.. got a black diatech gold finger and campy veloce front brake to go on.

    excuse the god awful pics

  • nice carpet

  • carpet is pimp!
bit of queen vic about it.

  • Not feeling that at all but fair play with the build

  • Here's my new road bike.
an early 1990s Steve Goff 753 frame & forks, Reynolds fork crown too, a nice bottom bracket shell. Cinelli bars and stem, Campagnolo mostly-record everything else, mavic open pro rims - the rear needs truing.

The Wellgo pedals are in addition to a pair of yellow Look clipless ones.

The gear hangar is bent, so I MacGuyvered it into a single speed to get it home.

I've put a thread about the gear hanger in the mechanics and fixing forum.

  • That's lovely that there Goff. Hopefully you keep it geared for those long sunday rides

I really hope I can. If I can't straighten the hanger, I'll have to look into having the dropout replaced. Unless I can file it off and use a bolt-on hanger.

I don't know if the derallieur suffered in the process at all. It seems ok, but I have nothing to compare it with.
