Gabes, just out of interest are "rotten apples" playing as a potential team in the qualifiers? Or was that just for Oxford?
-
• #53
Totally off tangent, have you read your emails yet Gabes (the one I sent yesterday).

We're playing. Rotten Apples is our new team name.Rik was officially hired as a permanent member whilst we were in Rouen.

This tourney is about European inclusiveness. It's about trying to bridge the gaps between places like Barcelona and Budapest, Sicily and Sweden. It's about building a larger European polo community and making the one that already exists stronger.
Yea, comparable to the olympics I guess. If I remember right, we were wanting a good representation of Europe, not a tilted representation of London. -

Sweet. You guys played well together, and Rik was a brick wall in goal!

true Mike, but in the future we need to have qualifiers in each country so we only get good teams from all around. As far as I know London is the only town doing qualifiers. All the others just registered their teams and HOP they are on board

I bitched hard enough about this from the start and no one really listened. I'm unhappy that I've been vindicated but it was always a fucking stupid idea.
Just how have you been 'vindicated'? We all absolutely agreed that london had plenty of good teams. In that case we've all been vindicated.
We all knew that London could fill 8 spots easily. In the original plan there was the possibility of 8 teams but the truth is that 'What If' came true, more cities are playing polo and are wanting to play competitively and our logistics just can't handle more teams than we already have.
You bitched then and you're still bitching. Bitch. ;)

Cheers dude, it's definitely a fun team to play on. I'm happy as hell with our lineup. -

Absolutely. This is the first go around. I wasn't all that happy about London doing the first one for this reason of many but I wanted it to be done properly so I voted for us.
It's going to hopefully be put into the structure that we pass on to next years hosting city. -

Who watches the Olympics?
I only watch the Polompics.

it would be very unattractive for the other cities when the registration starts with 8 teams from the hosting city.

I love you too Mike.I meant vindicated in that other people are now realising that there's a very real chance that they may not end up playing which sucks in many ways.
I agree with you that one of our aims was to unite Europe's hardcourt polo players and create an even stonger community.
However, I still think that as we're trying to attract public spectators as well, fpor the purposes of getting polo recognised by the masses, that we should also have been aiming to have the highest standard of polo possible.
Logistically it is difficult to make everyone happy but that's the way of life. I'm not in any way claiming that London has done a poor job of organising the Euros, quite the contrary it's a huge achievement and proves the dedication to the sport by the people who are putting in all of the work.

Many of us thought it was wrong to limit it to 4 teams, but I guess I don't have a say anyway - the first I heard of it was from the official email. There wasn't a chance of me being listened to... :(

.. just as well we're entered as a birmingham team then Ali ;)

Am i right in thinking that you have registered 4 London teams though? And the qualifiers will just be to decide which 4 will play?
-
• #71
Yup
-
• #72
We have 3 Manchester teams registered but I have a strong feeling that one of those teams won't actually go through with it and play. So I'll keep you all updated and perhaps there will be an extra team place going.

London was bound to feel aggrieved with 66 cities in UK.
Though London contains two cities (the City of London and the City of Westminster).
With 36 places available does that mean 9 cities from the UK with 4 teams
would fill the tournament?
The EHBPC are working hard for the best possible outcome, to encourage other european countries to attend.
Hope that happens. -

James, that's where it gets difficult. It's not about nationality or borders. It's about where you play polo. This means it's down to cities. I would have liked it if there could have been a spot for a designated South London team, North, East, West and mixed teams. I know Berlin have two different areas that they play and I think Munich as well. But then that opens up the necessity of more available spots. I feel the way it's been done is the best compromise.

That's a skewed stastic as not all 66 cities play polo.
