• chains too tight.

  • Bastards ! Both beat me to it.

  • You could have a slight 'kink' in your chainring. Some of the cheaper one are often not 100% flat.

Causes the chainring to effectively move in and out a little during rotation. The 'donk' sensation is the chain becoming slightly snagged then coming free a split second later.

Turn the cranks slowly by hand and viewed from the top, see if the chain appears to move side to side a little.

  • Gizmond and n3lson win.
I just went downstairs and put a major donk on it whilst at work.
Seems just loosening the chain helped a lot although if it was too tight it was only by a small amount. But I watched the chainline too and although its in line there is some side to side movement. Could get a new chainring but no guarantee it'll be an truer than this one? It's miche advanced.
    cheers those who replied.

  • one other thing
did you break the chain to re fit it ?

check out all the links on the chain slide the chain through your fingers and feel if there is a tight link that might give an odd feeling when pedalling

  • If you have a tight link where you break it, what can you do about it??

I always seem to get a tight link when I break but no amount of poking/oiling/hitting with hammers seems to loosen it.

    Also:

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

  • Recently I've notice that there's a sporadic 'click' sound (feel through my feet to be precise) at every couple of rotation, usually when i'm trackstanding, defintely not the pedal as I temporary swapped them for clipless one (and almost fell over since I hasn't use them in years!).

could it be the frame being a bit flexy? as it's not a pure track frame to says the least, or perhaps I swapped the Miche Advanced chainring with a Campangolo one that's slighty thinner?

UPDATE: problem solve, a mere case of the crankset not being tighten enough to the BB, it was nowhere near the recommended torque.

  • I know this is going to sound strange, but check handlebar/stem interface.
mine used to click all the time on my BJ.
then check your chain, and see if any links are tight.
then check all the drivechain right down to the crankbolts.

oh and i've also found it can sometimes be the cog as it settles in.

  • Have you left a mouse in there?

  • I have one crankbolts that are not tight but can't be removed due to the shitty metal get chipped when trying to loosen it.

  • BB might need regreasing

    could be the pedals

    check your headset as well

I thought you said it was track specific :)

  • Your tyres are on backwards,

  • ah piss off pifko, itll take at least 3 pages to fix that shit!

  • fail wording on my part, more track specific, not literally.

there's no click sound when I put the bike on the stand, spinning the crank doesn't seemed to make noise, only when I'm trackstanding or applying a bit of force when turning.

Are you sure it's not just the bike frame flexing a bit?

  • I had the same problem, probably BB

when you put your foot down the shell takes a lot of pressure

Dont think the frame would be noisy unless there was a crack in one of the tubes

Could well be, but it's not the frame making the noise.

Clicks 'n ticks are usually from non-moving parts, ie interfaces.

Saddle against post, post against frame, frame against clamp, etc, etc....

Me too, on my first conversion, took the BB out and replaced it, no click.

  • I'll check out the BB first thing in the morning, it's a Miche one, it should last a bit considering I never even touch the BB from the Bianchi for years and still fine.

  • Check the cups are nice and tight.

  • i'm still going to back the handlebars being the source of the sound.

  • Not the Titan stem..?

  • I can't hear it mate, I feel the click through my feet, not my hand, it's very obviously from the drivetrain.

  • Ok, I understand.
In that case I'd say BB, what type you have in there?
also double check they brazed the ST to the BB shell...

  • A Miche Primato BB for the Miche crankset, it's a sealed cartridge one, I'll check it in the morning properly when I pop round to the LBS, don't have the tools with me**.

  • ahh, sometimes they don't lock in or something.
did you use Threadlock or locktight?
