  • I don't like my job, but I do get paid. So, every once in a while, I like to spend some of that cash to make feel me better. I like nice things.

Have been thinking of buying a Bob Jackson Vigorelli in British Racing Green with yellow transfers and lug lining (a bit like the Lotus 7 from The Prisoner), but there are some things that I don't know.

Not sure whether or not I want it threaded or threadless. I think I am forced to choose threaded as I feel it suits the frame better (and threadless could be considered blasphemy).

    So, the questions:
    A) The steerer will be cut and threaded from the factory?
    B) Where to get the headsets? What options are there?

I've checked out Mercian Super Vigorelli, too, but, I don't know, BJ seems, for some reason, more likable. I've understood Mercian has tighter angles, but I am not after a super pure, boards only, track machine.

    a) yes, but perhaps not as low as you may like. untouched from the shop, you'd need two or three spacers.

    b) umm, you can purchase a headset at any bike shop...1" threaded or 1" threadless (1 1/8th threadless with a shim) depending on what you specify for the build. plenty of options.

threadless if you want stiffness and ease of changing bars and maintenance. threaded if you want the aesthetic. threaded is an inferior system, but a bob jackson or mercian would not look quite right with a threadless setup, in my opinion. 'look' is the only reason to chose threaded over threadless these days.
