  • £30 is too much.

I'd get one if it was £20 or less (£10 probably won't pay good enough quality + much forum money would it?)

I'd get one whether I'm in it or not...

  • Thanks but we can fight over that later - got to make it first!

    Deal :)

  • In the style of 'Rouleur' please!

Yeah, whoever's responsible for the layout, have a flick through some Rouleur back issues. Very nice.

I think photoben hit it on the nose with the initial suggestion of £15.

  • Forgot to say, we should have a few pages of just wholesale threads... the derailment of repeated subjects, pun offs and pictures of kittens...

  • ....

  • Charlotte we'd have to get a shot of you on the Farthing in!

Totally. You can have this one, but there may be better ones soon now I know how to ride the thing.

Just realised I didn't vote that I'd buy a book and now I can't edit...

  • Not a bad photo, but i'm sure between us me and Ben can conjour up something a bit quirkier and fun ;)
Just gimme a wide open space, and time to get a friend down to help rig up the lighting gear and i'm up for it anytime.

  • I'm in.

  • good idea ben; I'm in to contribute and buy.

  • Oh forgot to mention, I will be up for buying one to for sure :)

  • good idea ben; I'm in to contribute and buy.

Is that what they are calling it nowadays ?

  • how do i vote in the poll more than one time?
i have already voted once but want again...

  • sounds like a good idea. how pro do you want to go? would we be having it repro'd etc? I work in publishing and so could get some quotes if necessary.

Also, would be better going for 192 pages, that way we'd be able to either print 16 or 12 page sections. I've not worked with UK printers for a year or so but I think that might be cheaper than going the 8pp route.

for a high quality photo based specialist interest book (ha) you'd easily pay over £20 at magma.

  • Tynan - that doesn't even make sense!

Yeah, whoever's responsible for the layout, have a flick through some Rouleur back issues. Very nice.

Have you got some I can borrow please?

  • I'm in; but only if Tynan writes the foreword.

  • just to add to my bit above, we'd also need to decide how we'd be printing digital vs offset etc. somone on here is a printer I think, i'm sure i've seen it mentioned somewhere....

as for being green printing on FSC paper would be easy enough I reckon, most UK printers are up on that shit these days.

  • As a pro word-ist, I will gladly donate as much time as we need for any copy editing/writing.
And as to writing shit: hell I'd LOVE a page! Finally you designers no longer have all the fun… Mwahaha!

  • i want one!
    any cahnce of in??

  • I love the Rouleur concept, now that is what bikes and people should be about..

Nick Livesey co-founder Fireflies produce an interesting book this year titled Mountain/Machine in association with Rapha.. using a pin-hole camera with images of the alps, riders and medical references. whilst it was a worthy effort, it did lack text, and probably means more to us riders and sponsors and cancer patients (for the fundraising) than the outside world.

Also, there was a great picture book published in South Africa titled 'a day in the life' no commentary. this is an every 10 year event, with a chronological time span in one given day from dawn to dusk.. another great concept, covering all walks of life and full spectrum of backgrounds.

This forum has some legendary threads, be sure to include those classic ones, a book like this could end up on alot of people's (christmas wish-list) and include loads of urban landscapy scenes preferably in black and white to get some scale of our fine city.. You could end up with a bigger picture library than Getty Images.. now that would be worth something.

I'm in for £40 hardback, minimum 200 pages please, signed by VB and co..

    rock on

  • With the skilled people here, sounds all good, books I like, homegrown stuff I like...
producers could decide if relative newbies can contribute or not based on their contributions?

  • Nah, I don't want to put new people off - the more people who want to contribute the better. I'm hoping it won't be too hard to get 200 people together, but if we could get more and get a bigger book, brilliant!

This is going on the idea that if you have a page you'd buy at least one copy of the book.

Also, although it's going to be more visuals, definitely going to have text to break it up, corny and I are brainstorming already. I really want some of the Bike Haikus in there (none of my shit ones don't worry).

  • Me and a friend have been meaning to take cameras down to the polo courts one of these days. If we do find a couple of minutes I'm sure we'll send some your way.

  • Great idea Ben, I'll happily contribute and then buy one! :)

  • can i just say... nevermind Rouleur, look at The Ride journal for all that is great about cycling. An amazing balance of interesting text and beautiful pictures. though I don't think it would have to be like anything like either. Inspiring though.
