For christmas when i was 15 i got some SPD's for my Giant ATX500 MTB and some shoes which looked like walking boots. They were brown suede effect. My dad had already set the bike up and put the cleats in the shoes so i jump on it then and there in the hallway. Fell off to the left, feet not moving from pedals, not atall. Even when i was on the floor i couldn't work out how to twist my foot out. Ended up taking said walking boots off - still attached to pedals.
Mind you, i had the opposite problem with my egg beaters on my last fixed gear, slipped out a few times skidding. Again, almost definatley my fault.
