aarrrrrggghhh! i haven't got a f*cking long enough chain in my parts box.
i'm gonna have to wait til tomorrow to ride it now!
i think i might just be able to get away with the size, the TT reach is a bit long, but a shorter stem should cure that.it's not a real Gillot by the way, someone has gone to alot of effort to make it look like one though. the head tube badge is very rare apparently.
TBH, i'm really not bothered about puppy killing, as it's not a real Gillot.
it would be a shame to spoil the beautiful paint job though.i will prob leave as is though, because i won't be keeping it forever.
like it only the vans sticker has to be removed!

If you don't mind me asking Sterns, isn't that seat a tad far forward?
Nice bike though... shame to see the internal cable routing go to waste.
That Casati is gorgeous...

yeah, i know, the sticker looks a bit out of place...but i just threw on whatever i had available.
i got a chain this morning, and i've been riding it around a bit, and i think it's just that little bit too big for me.
so don't think i'll be keeping it anyway unfortunately. -

Hi!
Just finished this, couple of hours yesterday evening, and I woke up an hour earlier to finish it so I could ride it to work this morning...
I found this Dawes frame in the bin on my street, old mountain bike steel frame, reynolds 500 cro-mo tubbing and some lugs (Yipee!!).
I fitted it with the wheels from my girlfriend single speed bike that she never uses, and her saddle, an old B17 standard I chopped a while ago... Every thing else was spare bits and bobs I had...
I still need to find a chain ring. since this one is 50!! (my sproket is 17) I am looking for a 44 chainring, for shimano 5 pins spider (130 bcd I suppose?) and short chainring bolts since I am too lazzy cutting the ones I have...
Also I still need to finish to shave all the brazed on bits...
At the beginning of that little project, I though I'd ask MV to fit some track dropouts, but am hoping magic gear will be OK with the 44X17 ratio, I have a half link in stock if needed... so far, as 50X17, I've got good chain tensionning, except I can't really skid, unless I help myself with the front brake, but I almost broke my knees...
The seat post is very high, I suppose this is because it is a MTB frame, otherwise, it doesn't feel too small...Yo!
Loic
did you find it on harberton road????????????

My new bike to replace the battered raleigh (thieving cnuts couldn't take it so decided to batter the frame about).
Frame is a Holdsworth 1982 Special 531 awesomeness. Ebay for £25 pound in fairly rough condition. Puppy killed with no regrets....
Miche Cranks and BB
Condor hubs on cxp33's
Ofmega headset
Rolls saddle.
Very pleased with the Armourtex paintjob and generally how it has come out, after months of saving and deliberating.... Now waiting on some stickers from h lloyd and to drill the front fork so i can fit a decent brake, as the curent fork only accepts older nut fittings. -

the very beginnings of my new bike
iro angus amongst some detritus in my flat, ikea lightshade and frisbee.
everything is delicately balanced because nothing is attached to anything yet. -

Nice, I look forward to seeing it with the transfers. Im planning to get my holdsworth triath elan resprayed in red gloss + the glitter, and also getting the transfers from hlloyd.
Are you going to clearcoat over the decals?

Hey,
I'm building up an old carlton (my first fixed and my first build). It has an old style seat post where the post and the clamp that locks it onto the seat are separate.
I was hoping to get a new-style adjustable one - ideally fluted or aero like these. The problem is its 25.4mm.
The question is should I:
- keep looking for fluted/aero in 25.4mm;
- buy a new plain adjustable seatpost b/c it will be lighter than my current setup;
- keep the current setup; or
- is there some clever way of changing the seattube size?
Also its a bugget build.
Advice very welcome.

as far as i know, armourtex put the frame and forks in a pyro oven (something like that) and then all of the paint is burnt off and then they re prime it etc for you (i think) look on the armourtex website for prices as well (if there not on there, someone uploaded a scan of a flyer with prices)

Loving that frame colour 'spagettihoops' my project 501 Raleigh Record Sprint frame will be along those lines maybe a bit acid greenier, as soon as I have managed to get the redundant 'lumps n bumps' off the frame, but seriously loving that as a run around hack you lucky sod !!

Do not think i will clear coat over them - hopefully they will be ok???

And did you have to prep it at all?I stripped the paint off before hand - just to see what the rust was like as it was in fairly rough condition - it is not needed though as Armourtex do it all anways.
Cheers for the coments guys - cannot wait to get the decals on

In the process of trying to build the ultimate utility/ winter bike. The idea is to combine:
9 speed shimano deore groupset (cheap, easily available, and bomb proof);
hand built wheels, (deore hubs, 36 spokes, 3x, eyeleted box section rims);
Aluminium cyclocross frame with clearance for 35mm tyres (need this for studded winter tyres) and mudguard fittings;
Carbon cyclocross forks with mudguard fittings; and
Midge bar cockpit (silly expression that) with bar-end shifters.Biggest obsticle so far is squeezing 135mm mtn hubs into a 130mm frame. If this looks to be dodgy, I'll buy a cheap 9 speed compatable rear road hub and rebuild my rear wheel. Also not too sure how mtn vee brakes will work on the canti mounts on the frame and forks (have the appropriate drop bar brake levers though). Its bloody fiddly this geared bike malarky.
Something like this, but with mtn gruppo and midge bars.
Its a bike for a post apocolytic urban enviroment, where.....
Sorry could resist ;) -

My Casati track frame is almost done, with just a new pair of wheels to be fitted once I've sourced a new tub for the front. The bike got it's first outing at Herne Hill yesterday and handles like a dream, a much smoother ride than the Merckx it replaced.
I'll post some proper pics once the new wheels are fitted but here's one showing the current build.
andy very very nice mate, good job.
and remove a few links from the chain :)
very nice by the way.
