I honestly don't know, my guess that it's cheaper hence the switch to Tawianese.
Also they all use Dura Ace track cog until 2005 is when they start to use inferior cog (mine's wearing out already after 4 months!).
it's funny isn't it? the earlier model use decent part, now they use cheap alternative (they have Mavic CXP 21/22 on their Pista for instance, until 2005), everything changed after 2005.

yer i imagine taiwanese steel would be cheaper
i do really like the look of the original geo with the flat black look
it really is nice
i hate the way every bike labelled as track or pista nowadays is usually altered for road cycling -

so nothing extravagant but still better than taiwanese stuff
Depends which Taiwanese stuff; any 4130 drawn to the same guage/butting profile by a good mill would be the same. Reynolds 520 isn't even made at a Reynolds factory, it's outsourced.

but different brand 4130 are held in higher regard by people
the people that make it for volume i beleiev it is sanko are held in quite high regard -

Only at the low end. I don't think the Look 496 Piste or the Koga Kimera make any concessions to road use :-)

haha if only i could afford to look at riding a look 496
but you get what i mean
the bianchi pista is the prime example -

HAD to post this. Was out riding with Nasty last night (amongst others) He brought along one of the prettiest bikes I've ever seen. He's also got nearly all the parts to spec it up as full NJS (waiting on some tubs)
Nasty has got quite a collection of hot bikes...
The Planet X full carbon dealy with the carbon tri spoke on the front is sexual and the orange lo-pro makes me happy too.

thats the whole point of 520, manufacturers wanted to use reynolds but it was too expensive to ship out tubing from Birmingham to Taiwan. So its made to reynolds spec and badged under license. Taiwan has some really amazing manufacturing when they dont have to make a complete bike for 2p. All the steel BMX frames, and some 'fixie' frames such as the genesis flyer are good examples.

Don't forget the Charge Plug, I think they use Sanko's steel.

my plug with we the people bits....
That amazing custom Charge Plug Racer is up there with the like of Independent Fabrication, Hufnagel, or Vanilla, even Richard Sachs' creation cannot hold a candle to it.
That thing is gorgeous, I never seen one like it before, white wheel? white saddle and white bar grip? who would've thought of that combination in million of years?? it'll shit on those celeste Bianchi Pista Concept with celeste rims, celeste grip and celeste testicle with celeste sunglasses, the chrome has enough shine on them to power a small Bulgarian village including their fridges and television set, the welding is beautiful made that make even the most beautiful lug in the world look like big fat gobble of spit smear onto a piece of metal as a conceptual art piece done as a GCSE art project.
to top it off, it got a unique rare one-off We the People sticker on it! shit man that's a thousand time better than the Mint Sauce sticker I've been saving up for decades from MBUK magazine to put on my creation, fuck yeah.
