  • the ergo's are road shoes, so the atac's will not fit.

    That's ok then...the Lake's are mtb shoes!

They will fit. Just not ideal. Sidi road shoes have both look style and SPD style fittings. I ran Sidi Raiden shoes with Time ATAC Aliums for a few weeks before getting a pair of Sidi Blaze shoes.

ok, maybe fit was wrong, there will be absolutely nothing to protect the cleat.

  • I will have to make do with Lake RX-5......or will the pedals only work with Sidi Ergo 2s?????

I meant Sidi's and Atac are the connoisseurs choice.
    Sidi Action MTB.
Yes the cleats end up like 2 pence pieces.

Sidi and ATACare the dogs bollocks!....so i just one of them!

Thanks for all your advice...i have bought a set of Time ATAC Roc S pedals for £49.95p from Merlin Cycles....post free!...Cheers

  • I had Sidis and Time ATACs for a while. I then sold them to buy clips and straps. I'm now back to Road shoes (pearl izumi) and SPD-SLs. I've had quite a journey in the past year and a half:

    1. Clips & Straps
    2. Sidi Raiden (road) / SPD-SL (road)
    3. Sidi Raiden (road) / Time ATAC (mtb)
    4. Sidi Blaze (mtb) / Time ATAC (mtb)
    5. Better Clips & Traps than before
    6. Pearl Izumi (road) / SPD-SL (road)

Now I think I just want to buy a pair of Sidi Dominators and Time ATACs and be done with it.

I had all the stuff for clips and straps....good pedals, double straps, leather soled traditional shoes, proper shoe TA Anquetil plates...only lacking in one thing...bottle!......So from starting off with Eggbeaters and Shimano Shoes......now i have SPDs and Lake MX-5 [mtb]....hopefully 'ending' my pedal journey with the Lake shoes with Time ATAC ROC S.......till i change the shoes....ooooh??....Actually the Lake shoes are quite good but i got one size bigger than usual 46 rather than 45] and they fit well........BTW Merlin shipped the pedals the same day!

  • you pays for what you get, even though they are all good.

They are all brilliant but I would question the need for any of the +£100 varieties for non-specialist use.

  • just fitted some ROC's - seem well built but i didn't realise there's no adjustment..anyway, compared to the worn out SPDs I've just taken off they're almost impossible to unclip from - in fact I can't unclip them! any had the same problem with ROC's?

  • The Exustar PR77s look intesresting

Look ARC on one side and SPD on the other

  • Marxist_fixie - how you getting on with the Time ATAC Roc S pedals? You happy with them or would you have bought something different?

Sold them to me :p - The bike was split and sold. I haven't got them on yet though as the bike is still missing a few bits and bobs

  • Those Rocs working out for you yet seb_pf?

  • nope- I see why they appeal to so many people....well made, can't see any accidental unclips happening etc....but my knees are a bit shot and the SPDs just work better for me. each to their own and all that...mind you, reason I changed is the bearings failed on my M520 spds after 3 years so for durability they're a bit shite compared ot the more solid ATACs

    that's what I use and they're great

  • Don't suppose anyone's been looking for a pair of the Alium or Roc varieties and found a good deal online have they?

  • i went with an ebay seller £35 inc postage.

  • Cheers dude. I trust they're Aliums yeah? How you finding them? This is my first time venturing into the world of clipless pedals and I'm wondering if it's worth going for the Rocs...

I've looked on eBay and the cheapest I can find is around £32. Not bad at all but just wondering if there was anywhere else doing them cheaper.

  • I got some from Condor for thirty-something quids. They're absolutely wicked, never had an un-clipping incident.

  • Decathlon @ Surrey Quays do them for £29.95 stock check says they have 3 sets in stock

Second hand pairs on ebay are usually bombproof too.

  • Ooooh...does that include cleats then?

  • ^ yep

and if they have the replacements in stock they are £9.95 and the cheapest UK price by a mile. But they do get rinsed out regularly.

  • I called them up after reading your post and they said they were out of Aliums and that they weren't going to stock them anymore. :s I'm gonna call again tomorrow as I'm not convinced the person I spoke to knew what they were talking about. Hmmm...

  • Bought shoes the other day (mavic pulse - very comfortable for my wide flat feet) and rode with a pair of leant spd's for the first time today - wondered why I hadn't done it sooner. Though I'm used to really tight clips and straps so I found the fact I could move my foot around a bit weird, though managed to lock down some of that by tightening them up.

Can someone explain the difference between the float on spd's and ATAC's? I gather its something to do with spd's being pivotal and ATAC's having lateral float?

  • i love my times, but only use them for long distance, as i unclip regularly when slowing down/skidding.
clips & straps for most of my city riding.
