Anyone else up for doing the Isle of Wight Randonnee this Sunday? It's a 100km (a touch over 60 miles) route aroud the Isle of Wight, free entry, just turn up on the day at any checkpoint.
I'm thinking get the train to lymington, then ferry across to yarmouth where we can start from.
Let me know if anyones up for it!

What time does it start?

You can start at any time at any checkpoint. I'm thinking get there for about 10? There is one ferry an hour and the crossing takes 30min, costs about £15.

(Dogs and bicycles are carried free on Wightlink ferries, providing an additional incentive for dog owners and cyclists to take a trip to the Isle of Wight).

Cool, I think you can get a train right to the ferry terminal at Lymington, have to change at Brockenhurst, or can just cycle from Brockenhurst, its only 5 miles which isn't too far to go before the start, or after we finish. Don't really wanna cycle from Bournemouth as it would add an extra 40 miles in total and I haven't done IoW before so don't have a clue what is't gonna be like. Also I haven't done a century in a long time. Best to play it safe, eh?

IoW = lots of hills.
-
• #212
nah, theyre more like....grunts, yeah, grunts. Alps=hills
-
• #213
I thought Alps were mountains? :=p
-
• #214
Yeah, don't downgrade the Alps, man. The big one on the way to Lulworth (if you go through the firing ranges) that's a hill, and a few others over the Purbecks, they're hills too. I'm liking the term "grunts", to describe a short hill that isn't big enough to be called a real hill?

• #215
gonna be some grunting going on, reckon all should go fixed/ s/s just for kicks,
all up for the challenge say- aye aye cap'n!
we got major lie in compared to rest, has someone got more jedi mind tricks than me to work out a good place on route where we could intercept the London lot coming from west?
Lucas your bikes ready when you want it, have you stacked it on my pearson yet? -

Pifko cant come fixed unless he rides the Raleigh, Fort is outta action at the mo.
I was considering doing it fixed, but never done that sort of distance fixed before. Suppose it would be ok if we take it steady and I stick the 18t sprocket back on...I reckon if we time it right we could meet them at Yarmouth, they'll be heading that way from their start checkpoint.

Depends, emmeff still beats me on fixed except downhill.I got a 16t freewheel you could borrow if you can borrow the tool from someone to take it off my bike :P.
-
• #222
I meant I can race against a freewheel but not gears, not that I was after a freewheel.
Fuck it, can't leave emmeff as the only one fixed, I'm in! Just have to remember to lower my GI to 70 before sunday.
