  • o.k, thanks. good luck with that enjoyable piece of writing, I especially enjoyed doing the lit review, hours of inspiring database searching i seem to remember.

Ride started wimbourne headed out and around loads of villages, as you do. better than london brighton in some ways, less people so faster riding speed.
tea rooms at wimbourne st giles my 40 mile stop, always feel like im on holiday in "england" places like that. tea loaf, flapjack, bag of whizz(not really)
was a few guys on fixed there, one riding charge plug telling me hes going to alps with it soon.............hmmmmmm?

going to lie in sauna--you better do some work hadnt you?

    catch ya soon

  • Anyone else up for doing the Isle of Wight Randonnee this Sunday? It's a 100km (a touch over 60 miles) route aroud the Isle of Wight, free entry, just turn up on the day at any checkpoint.

I'm thinking get the train to lymington, then ferry across to yarmouth where we can start from.

Let me know if anyones up for it!

  • ^

    What time does it start?

  • You can start at any time at any checkpoint. I'm thinking get there for about 10? There is one ferry an hour and the crossing takes 30min, costs about £15.

    More info: http://www.cycleisland.co.uk/index.php?page=details

  • can we take bikes on there? cant find out?

  • can we take bikes on there? cant find out?

I cant see any reason why not, they take cars so must have space!

    2nd result

(Dogs and bicycles are carried free on Wightlink ferries, providing an additional incentive for dog owners and cyclists to take a trip to the Isle of Wight).

  • yeah.its on,why not? train to brockenhurst, lymington, ride. lets try and meet up with some other riders from here, will open that thread again tommorrow. too late for me but Im in guys, on wire again tues.

  • Cool, I think you can get a train right to the ferry terminal at Lymington, have to change at Brockenhurst, or can just cycle from Brockenhurst, its only 5 miles which isn't too far to go before the start, or after we finish. Don't really wanna cycle from Bournemouth as it would add an extra 40 miles in total and I haven't done IoW before so don't have a clue what is't gonna be like. Also I haven't done a century in a long time. Best to play it safe, eh?

  • IoW = lots of hills.

  • nah, theyre more like....grunts, yeah, grunts. Alps=hills

  • I thought Alps were mountains? :=p

  • Yeah, don't downgrade the Alps, man. The big one on the way to Lulworth (if you go through the firing ranges) that's a hill, and a few others over the Purbecks, they're hills too. I'm liking the term "grunts", to describe a short hill that isn't big enough to be called a real hill?

  • gonna be some grunting going on, reckon all should go fixed/ s/s just for kicks,
all up for the challenge say- aye aye cap'n!
we got major lie in compared to rest, has someone got more jedi mind tricks than me to work out a good place on route where we could intercept the London lot coming from west?
Lucas your bikes ready when you want it, have you stacked it on my pearson yet?

  • Pifko cant come fixed unless he rides the Raleigh, Fort is outta action at the mo.
I was considering doing it fixed, but never done that sort of distance fixed before. Suppose it would be ok if we take it steady and I stick the 18t sprocket back on...

I reckon if we time it right we could meet them at Yarmouth, they'll be heading that way from their start checkpoint.

  • that means not letting Adam go at the front then........

  • that means not letting Adam go at the front then........
    I don't understand?

My fixed is not ready yet anyway, turns out a bought a chainring for a tandem... oops.

  • If he is on the Raleigh I shan't be trying to keep up with him :p

Can't be racing gears on a fixer! Freewheel yes, gears no.

  • I don't understand?

SS can't keep up with gears.

  • SS can't keep up with gears.
Depends, emmeff still beats me on fixed except downhill.

I got a 16t freewheel you could borrow if you can borrow the tool from someone to take it off my bike :P.

  • I meant I can race against a freewheel but not gears, not that I was after a freewheel.

Fuck it, can't leave emmeff as the only one fixed, I'm in! Just have to remember to lower my GI to 70 before sunday.

  • Cranks have been dispatched. I should hopefully be in business by Sunday! 48x18 will be fine.

  • So far we have 5 of us heading over to IoW:

    1. Arducius
    2. lucas
    3. emmeff
    4. Pifko
    5. ta2

Anyone else up for it, should be a good day out?

  • Depends, emmeff still beats me on fixed except downhill.

That is because he is fitter than us.
