  • Haha, I used to lock my other, more recent, Carlton up to another one for exactly the same reason.

  • I'm inclined to agree. I went through this when I was at BLB. They seemed adamant that a 56 was right despite being 6'2. I bowed down to their knowledge as this is my first road bike since about 1985 (and I've grown a bit since then). I immediately shifted the seatpost to its max height and so far haven't noticed problems. However, seatpins tend not to be as long as MTB's and as posts above suggest, I should be looking for a longer/stronger seatpin.

I can't afford to replace the frame at the moment, so will have to live with looking like a circus freak.

I always size my frames by top tube length - in spite of being 6'1", both my short reach and preference for a more relaxed riding position have me riding a 55cm road bike and a 56cm fixed.

As long as it's comfortable, I don't feel it really matters too much.

  • short legs and a long torso probably

In which case the TT will be way too short.

  • My inside legs is exactly the same (33"), take away 10" and you'll have your frame size, an 23" (58cm) one should fit you nicely.

    Not entirely true, ed.

The TT measurement has much more effect on fit.

Barrie Witcomb applied your 10" rule and I ended up in a similar seatpost situation to Mr Temper. Think maybe Smiling-Buddah's Murky had the same prob.

  • Now have a new seatpost and will get a new frame after my wedding. Now got to get my seatpost out as its fused in. Checking to see if that Coca Cola trick still works.

  • dead out

  • hey
finally worked out how to post fotos , here is my 80s Ron Cooper (yet to be painted / coated). Ive enjoyed making it and love riding it. Seen a few of you riding along in west london. Hope to make it along to a ride or drinks soon. Currently building up a 70s Benotto track frame will post more as i progress.

  • oh and the pics

  • Yes, so many people find themselves teleported into moving vehicles with occupants they want to get away from. I think what you meant was that if she was insane enough to get into a stationary car with me, it shouldn't be surprising that she was also insane enough to try to jump out of it at speed. If you're going to make gratuitously offensive remarks about attempted suicides, at least try to be logical.

    boot, other foot etc.

  • I feel like a dork when I wear this hat but it keeps my hair out of my face and that's what matters!

I had put up a photo of my old bike, this is the new bike.
