  • BMX, and MTB wheels are not really comparable with 700c.

    consider that the smaller size means the spokes travel from the hub flange to the rim at a more acute angle, meaning the eyelets or spoke holes are offset "sided" to assist a smooth direction.

    same with wider axle sizes, like MTB stuff.

    Imagine a deep section 20" wheel, how the spokes would go from the rim centre to the hub flange, you'd have to do some serious designing for it to work.

    also road wheels are not designed to take side impact, a rock or stone hitting a deep section rim will bugger it.
