I have always vowed I'd never touch this ride again with a barge pole, but I'm suddenly tempted. Do you think they'd let bikes on the train before 10am? If so I could make it back to London in time to get back into bed before the other half wakes up. Probably.
I'd plan to ride back, Emilia (or organise independent motorised transport, of course, but riding back is feasible given the medium distance). AFAIK all bike carriage is off on the day. It's an absolute scandal but apparently justified by appeal to a lack of rolling stock (although you know perfectly well that the real reason will be cost). I don't know if the BHF waded in there strongly when it first happened (from memory there was a near riot outside Brighton Station because a lot of people had no idea) but it's probably too late now. :(
