  • @ HenvY - nice bike, esp. like the matching rim and tape. But you might find some foot retention useful if you plan on stopping ;)

Clearly some folk here haven't been following the tech news closely lately, for there is now a high tech alternative to lunatic optimism when it comes to deceleration

  • clips aren't enough? D:

ah, missed them. are they designed to be used without straps?

  • @ The Jam - nice nelson dude, what bars have you fitted there?

They seem like real good value frames.

    yup

  • yup

hmm, interesting. i for one would be a little nervous of going brakeless without straps backing up the clips (have had clips break on me).

  • if anyone knows a better way of doing this, lemmme know.

click the button that has a little pic of a mountain and put the image address in the box that pops up. But I don't think blogger.com let's you link to pics in this way :-/

haha well now you're making me want straps, I hadn't considered that they might brake...thanks ;)

yea, double straps are worth getting. As is a front brake, IMO, but let's not get into a brake/brakeless debate.

I am actually going to get a brake, there's no way I have the confidence to road ride that for any extended period w/out one, but I wanted to try it brakeless first. Plus it looks nicer like this.

  • I wanted to try it brakeless first.

I'm sure most people will agree with me that this is a topsy turvy way to think about riding fixed..

learn how to control your bike with the back up of a brake first, then once you have sufficient ability lose the brake if you think you should (I can't think of a good reason why but that's another debate).

I'm glad you are getting a brake.

I meant more out of curiousity for what it would be like rather than as a permanent thing, it was just as I was building the bike up gradually.

  • Matty, I just tried....it didn't work for me. Thanks for posting it anyways :-)

  • your curiosity can be sated with a brake too.. just try not using it for a while :P

  • I made a vow that I should never take my front brake off until I actually master riding my bike.

couple years later, I took it off after learning not only skidding, stop skid, trackstand etc. but also how to ride on the street, i.e. assumed that all vehicle on the road are driven poorly, even if they're not.

follow their advice mate, it's worth it.

    :D

  • Or you can be like Arnie, lift boxes, become the ruler of California, and then impose a no-brakes rule.

  • HenvY, it looks like we need to see more seatpost.

  • Blimey - seems to be a lot of hating on this thread at the mo! Anyway, I'm a newly registered, longtime lurker and here's my new build. No face pic yet - am too shy....

Welcome, TheJam. What made you get this particular frame/bike? I ask because its not very well known or advertised. There's only one other person on here that I know that has one. It looks very good.

  • 3: I had a a GF with BPD about ten years ago. Not a disease I would wish on anybody. At this distance, I can see the funny side of steering with one hand while dragging a loved one back into the fast moving car she's just tried to jump out of with the other, but it probably wouldn't have been such an amusing anecdote without the fortuitous combination of loose but strong clothing, quick reactions and my outweighing her by 100lb.

That seems a perfectly sane reaction to finding oneself alongside you in a car, moving or not.

that really looks like my dolan - british team replica and your bike looks like a replica of it unless it was the team bike before dolan made it.

  • @ Ved - cheers! Those bars are just the stock Bontrager ones from my old Fillmore - waste not want not!

@GA2G Thank you for the welcome. Hmm - reasons for choosing that frame where price, availability and also because I hadn't seen any others about.

  • Cheers! My boyfriend designed it, he's looking at printing more if your interested.
