i should be able to make the ugly twat ride now, so count me in :)
been thinking about fund raising for it, i reckon we've inadvertently drawn alot of attention to bike polo from our newmarket road games. it might be worth tapping up the councillors/yoof centre manager/locals to see if we can do some sort of an 'open day' in the court, where we invite parents, teenagers, kids etc along to see the game, have a try out themselves, and buy burgers and coke from our own bbq and raffle stuff or somethingk?
we could print small A5 black and white flyers laminated and do a post run around cambridge, 15 of us spend an hour posting stuff thats alot of town covered.
we could raffle:
*custom malllets
*spoke cards
*balls
*bike parts
*bikes?
*training sessions with Lee to learn tricks :p
*favours or promises (for example, you win the chance to go out for dinner with Harvey, i'd pay good money for that opportunity!) or more in tune with the event, the promise to service your bike for free.plus we could do the 'bike through a hoop' challenge, where you take two clapped out bikes and two teams of people, and the quickest to get the complete knackered bike through a small hoop wins a prize. bit like shelford feast piano through a window type thing? that would cost nothing to organise and would create interest, and be bloody hilarious fun too, sledgehammers and mallets ahoy.
this will take organising though, and will probably have to be done on a saturday, and before june, oh dear!!

nice, but doubt it'll raise much money. we need a good few hundred poundos
these events rarely turn up with a profit, its easier to sell something on ebay -

Or we could do something more badass and open to the entire bike community...

I think a more realistic approach would be to find a bikeshop or something to sponsor us....and we will wear they're logos and ride they're hats or something all the way and advertise accross the UK by giving out stickers or some other bullshit.....wayy better money to effort ratio.

a bike shop could just give a newsaper 200 pounds and get a full size advert in the evening news, advertising to thousands in one go. why would they give us money, when we aren't even doing it for charity or attempting media coverage!? sorry to be cynical, but already tried this path with our cambridge - paris ride, and that is for charity and everythink!

I knew I'd like this before I even clicked the link purely by the name alone.

Raffle your balls? Sounds painful . I like the idea of ebaying random stuff though .

this is a big htfu to all english cyclists! -

I have already been talking to people at work about having a bicycle film night and it seems like it would be fine. I don't think raffle etc would work there but we could borrow a projector and do it at The Shop on Jesus Lane. They have all sorts there from gigs to art exhibitions to post natal singing classes.

bogey, do you mean belleville rendez-vous?
so is there actually anymore space on the ride, i thought numbers were really limited because there was only going to be one van? has someon else voluntered to drive, i would, but think might take me a bit too long to pass my test.
Still keen for it if there is space....

yes thats it cheers corny!
i can drive, as long as the van is under 7.5 ton, so i can do my bit -

I talked to Angelo back a few weeks ago and he said he will drive and we actually decided on the dates too (these are the ones he can do basically) from 7th june to 21st june
that is next day from strawberry fair, so we can do the london-cambridge, let a bit off steam off at the fair and then set off to twatt the next day. I think the dates and the driver are now orgonised. All we need is for people to tweak up their bikes, stock up on innertubes and work out the route. Also places we will stop and where we will sleep.

I talked to a fellow who did the LEJOG with support and he said that his marvellous driver managed to sort out food and lodging for each night..That way they could judge distances and tiredness on the fly. (not like well be tired) I can get some special mexican turbo beans. just dont follow to close. I wonder how wonderful Angelo is?

caffeine and epo ftw!
angelos got an iphone hasn't he? no excuse not to! ;) -

It's a good idea to work out the route before going and map it out either on paper or gps rather than relying on an iphone.
Bogey, do you think you can find a good route for us from Ugley to Twatt? I think we agreed that we want to ride as close to the shore as possible, avoiding as many hills and mountains as possible. I can't do this as I suck at the geographics of this country and we'll probably end up somewhere in sweden. :)
But we need to orgonize this soon as possible, as the more prepared we will be, the easier the ride will be. Seriosly, lets get down to it and get everything prepared. I'll talk to Angelo on Sunday again about him driving and his possibilities, don't know if he has some sort of caravan too?

OK ugley twatts, here is the proposed route ... I dont know where the extra 100 miles came from.. The day check points are just a guide to average out the miles/day. Holy fuck I hope were feeling perky like icy scottish nips.
Last night we figured about 350 quid for fuel divided by how ever many fools there are.
Still need to:
Have a look at YHA locations/prices
Look for shit we want to see along the way
Estimate costs more better-er
Learn how to ride a bike..
++?? -

how do we keep angelo from getting fines for going 15mph in 60mph areas?
do we ride at night to avoid traffic and lorries? Avoid day heat and winds? Waste more batteries on lights?
-
• #98
No night riding on purpose chuck, edinburgh high for june is 20 deg so I dont think were going to be too hot... This is england im going to be prepared for rain/sleet/snow with scattered sun.. As for lorries and wind.. are we men or? As for angelo, I imagine hell drive ahead at normal speeds to go have a nap, prepare us a 5 course meal and have a thai massage. does that soothe your mind?? Time to go build some ass calluses.
-
• #99
i figured angelo is gonna go slowly so we don't have any head wind?
-

Head Wind = FUN!
...
Or is that just me?
Yep eddy, I havent done much on the route planning side of things except for get a book on caravan ready campsites in the UK. Didnt want to get too detailed as we dont know exactly who is in, what will happen, how we ride. etc... we can talk routes over a big ass map..
It would be good to secure the mystery machine.. Ratboy? anything?
Personally i dont feel it is necessary to do any charity stuff, but a bbq/raffle etc etc would be good, then the ugley twatters can steal all the pooolo cash hahahah! fuckers! oh wait.
