Doom Bar is the perfect every day beer. A pint a lunch time quickly turns in to 4 or 5...
For a treat, see if you can find somewhere with "Betty Stogs" on. It's a Skinners brewery ale, and it's bloody wonderful. I know they serve it in the Three pilchards in Polperro.
+1 on the Gin distillery tour too. It's great, and Plymouth is defiantly worth a visit (go on a river cruise and look at the warships ;)
