Funnily enough I was in Beer at the weekend. First time I've ever been and it's lovely. Can highly recommend both the food and the beer in The Barrel of Beer. You can't miss it as Beer itself is pretty small. If there are cooking facilities at the Youth Hostel I'd also recommend a fishing trip to catch your own tea. You could quite easily cycle over to Lyme Regis from there which is also quite charming.
