• I just scrubbed mine with water + sponge.

  • I've always used joe glow, just make sure you rinse well after

  • Hey what ever happened to the coffee ride? People still keen?

  • Hey bill, what's the story with the pink coffee machine? Selim say's that you thought it was fixable, but couldn't remember what the problem was.

yeah i wanted to organize it but then booked a large holiday to go and see the WBC in Atlanta so i kind of decided to do it when i get back at the beginning of May. so it'll probably be 10th/17th May something like that..

  • Martyn's (y not i) in Muswell Hill is good, plus if you live in North London a nice ride up the hill to fetch their coffee is a nice activity. Happily buy their pre-ground as they will ask you what it's for and grind it in front of you and it's always done right in my experience.

Interesting to see all these Gaggia's - I can see why, they look nice and seem to do the job, but has anyone else found they break a lot? Other half's Dad went through about six before buying a Krups, so I did the same, they just keep going. I'd like something which froths better though. Any recommendations for good affordable electric espresso machines out of interest? Which don't break?

Anyone buying descaler which is sold as such, don't bother, waste of money, just get citric acid (white powder) from a Turkish shop for a quid, they have always have it in the herb/spices section for some reason.

  • Anyone know a decent cheap(ish) fair trade pre-ground bean? Just had a sip of my morning coffee at work and something has to change... awful.

Oooh... coffee machines that need repairing..

We're not sure, but we think it needs a new pump.

  • What model is it Bill? I have a spare Gaggia pump at home.

  • It's a Francis Francis X something. I can't remember which model. Discontinued model. It's been a while since I have seen the thing. If it's the X5, then it's a Rancilio pump. But Nhatt'll have to check.

  • cheers my dear. I'll have a look....

Its a v old francis francis X5. It does work but think the pump might be a bit knackered. It does make coffee... but couldnt get it to make any crema!!

  • If any of you coffe buffs come to NYC be sure to hit up Gimmie Coffe in Brooklyn or Manhattan, beans are roasted in the Manhattan store and its just as good as Monmouth.

  • hmmm. I might need a hand with the coffee machine then...hippy, any chance of trading cookies for knowledge?

  • Food, work on me? Whatever gave you that idea? ;)

I'm certainly no expert but I've got a rough idea about how machines work now so I might be of some use.

  • I guess some people here might lurk on TooMuchCoffee, so may already konw there are 2 members through to the final of the world barista championships in Atlanta.

Gwilym Davies, UK Barista champion, of Colombia Rd and Whitecross St market is at worst one of the six best peolple on earth to make you a coffee. Tomorrow he may be officially the best.

Colin Harmon of Dublin, another superb contributor to our coffee scene is also one of the six finalists. Congratulations both.
