We agree on that. I don't know where the whole respect thing came from - I don't respect them, I just ignore them.
Please don't confuse lack of agression with pacifism. Treating the road like the frontline of some battle between motorists and cyclists is bad for all of us and you are re-inforcing the 'tards perception that all cyclists are arseholes and we have a lot more to lose as a result.
