  • As for my comment about Pozzato getting nowhere: when you're wheelsucking the same guy during consecutive 2 classics and openly announcing that you will be wheelsucking that guy so you can beat him at the end, getting beaten in a man to man battle IS getting nowhere. On the other hand if he would have attacked, he might have won it if he was as good as he's been saying.
Nevertheless, Pozzato is definately a great rider and at least he know how to steer his bike...

A double for Devolder would have been nice, yes, but to say that Boonen is overrated is a bridge too far. Sure, there are better sprinters than him, and I don't think anybody ever claimed he was a sprinter pur-sang, but he's a hell of a classics rider. Anyhow, the Boonen-hype has died down a little as people realised he is just human too and the extreme idolisation wasn't doing him any good.

Pozzato beat Boonen in a sprint in the E3. If it worked there then it's a reasonable tactic to adopt. Just because it didn't work in Flanders doesn't mean it's a worthless tactic. You will notice Pozzato died in the arse towards the end of P-R, so his TTing ability is not as good as Boonens. So, it's reasonable to assume his chances of winning in a breakway are less than Boonens. AND Pozz was caught behind a crash.. no wonder Boonen attacked.

Anyway, he's still finished on the podium for the last 3 classics, riding against Belgians in the strongest Classics team. I'd call that getting somewhere.

Yeah, 'overrated' was a poor choice of word. Over-hyped maybe. If he can stay off the charlie he might actually win some more races this year :)
