Bumping this thread because I was fool enough to ride fixed from London to Bristol on Friday. Chose a 120 mile (200 km?) route via Slough, Maidenhead, Henley, Didcot, and Chipping Sodbury.
I still haven't been converted from platform to clipless or clipped, but my main problems were fitness and hills. I thought it would be pretty flat after Didcot, but my chosen route skirted the Ridgeway hills. Once you've done a few hills that take you way over your aerobic threshold, it's game over.
On the the other hand, I did it, and I can feel somewhat smug.
