Police have just confirmed that yesterday's fatality at Elephant and Castle roundabout was also a cyclist, not a pedestrian as previously reported.

Ring of steal - bikes?
Everyone in little groups blocking off all the entrances to the city. that'd be sure to get coverage!

Exclusion Zone.
As mentioned, a ring of memorial rides at all of the entrances to the exclusion zone would get some attention.

Such a shame...
I saw a similar thing outside my house on the corner of Kingsland/Middleton road.. RIP Smudge

Look, I really think that all this talk of what advice should be given is premature; I can't see anywhere in the reports anything that tells us exactly how the collision happened - therefore we can't say what specific advice might have helped apart from telling the rider not ride a bike at all on a street which is used by big lorries.

actually, the report in todays Standard gives quite a detailed description of how the accident happened... from witnesses there at the time... both the female cyclist and the lorry were turning left and the cyclist was trapped by railings and then crushed by the rear wheels of the lorry.

I think the comment was intended in a more general sense - but point taken nonetheless.

Listen to Bill--even initial newspaper/freesheet reports are often inaccurate.

independently on who is right or wrong, awareness is good for both sides riders and lorry drivers

I think the cyclist and lorry factsheet is a step in the right direction for educating people no matter what. and i think i am a fairly decent cyclist and have still had some near misses, though not for the same circumstances. i always take the back streets as much as i can, especially on that stretch.

I was just thinking the same - and basically No, in my experience.
I suppose if your trying to sell a bike or even the idea of cycling exposing someone to effective (graphic ?) safety warnings and the consequences might scare people off.

I am afraid that this is exactly what I would expect from other cycling forums. Not Londonfgss.

terrible news, i cycle through here every day and its awful to think of one of ours having such a horrific accident in a place you know so well.
i know it means little right now but if there is ever anything of a positive nature to come from an accident like this its that people are talking about how they can try and be a bit safer and also try and help other riders think in this way as well.
Thoughts and condolences go out to the rider and her friends and family.
Ride safe people, as other road users won't do it for you
Peace.

I used to commute that way every day, it's a sucky junction... RIP.
Have added to this, I think I am missing one from this year.
Good map... Here's another one you're missing from a couple of years ago: http://www.islingtongazette.co.uk/content/islington/gazette/news/story.aspx?brand=ISLGOnline&category=news&tBrand=northlondon24&tCategory=newsislg&itemid=WeED04%20May%202005%2010%3A31%3A54%3A330
