You think measuring in inches is weird but you don't even know what your tyre digits mean?!
Your using the french standard, which is basically mm, except it isn't standard, different companies have different ideas of what a 700c tyre is. Originally the letter denoted the width, so having a second number for width is a bit weird isn't it?
Also there isn't a french equivilent to 27inch wheels. So my original question wouldn't have worked so well...
