running anything less than a 10 mile run is time wasted if your intention is to get fit. But that my opinion, not fact.
Not really true, if you run shorter you can run faster.
Sprinters train in burst of 25metres or so at a time, and it certainly develops speed, power and overall fitness.
Plus even if you are aiming for full on endurance, you still maybe starting from a modest base (like me) being able to jog a mile at best.
