If you get BMX put in an FixedGearFreestyle specific forum I will hunt you down and kill you.
-
• #3
Note how I said singlespeed as well Em, hence a place for bmxers on here to congregate also (since I know there are a fair few of you floating about), I by no means want it to be exclusive to "fixedgearfreestyle".

• #4
but doesn't the trixiedix thread already cover all of this?
-
• #5
Not really, TrixieDix is about a weekly meet of people gathering together to have a tricks session, that is all it covers basically.

why not just start a "tricks" group??
job done

The same could be argued for Bike Polo, i'm not trying to knock polo by the way I think its awesome, but I think the freestyle side of things is equally deserving of a forum section, i've met just as many people that roll up for trick sessions as I have that play polo.

I think you'd find it would be undersubscribed and you'd miss a lot of the passing traffic that those threads being in bigger subforums garner.
I'm also not sure about your comparison with polo, how many nights are there trix sessions?
-

Hmm, this is a tricky one. I agree that there should be somewhere that trick threads should be but there seem to be a lot of people disliking the idea. I don't think a seperate forum would work, but perhaps a sub-forum category (like the bike polo one that james mentioned) would be a good idea.

it's called a "group" any one can make one.

I'm not talking about a whole new forum Phil, just another category in this forum like the bike polo section.

Yeah, that's what I meant - another category would work well.

And if you make one and it's got a hell of a lot of traction, then it's possible that I'll consider promoting it to be a full forum.
I did this with the Bike Polo forum because it has enough people using it daily and it is evident that the community of polo players had a need for it.
I'm very happy to do similar if demand is proven over time*. I won't do it without being totally convinced though, and what convinces me is data... # of posts, # of threads, #of people participating, #of daily posts (constant interest in the forum), etc.
So start a group, do the marketing (word-of-mouth, events, instructional video's, etc), get people interested and using it... and then it's yours... you get your top level forum and you get to be the boss of it.
- I would do this for any topic in which enough interest is evident.

I'm not so sure on that, the tricks/freestyle scene in London is huge, both in and outside of the fixed gear community even if you forget about all the bmxers out there, (singlespeed mtb street riders for instance) and forums such as trick track (http://www.tricktrack.org/forums/) currently have several regular posters on there who are also members of this forum, i'm not proposing we create something as niche as they have (specifically for fixed gear tricksters only), but simply a place where people can enjoy talking about that kind of riding in general, bike set-ups, videos etc etc, in one place, @ Murtle: Thanks we know what a group is, but thats not what this thread is about.

A very fair and just response David, i'll get on it then!

@ Murtle: Thanks we know what a group is, but thats not what this thread is about.
It's the route to success. Truly, it's how the Bike Polo community got a forum, and I'm very happy to provide the same thing to you, but show me the community on here clamouring for it by showing me usage and data.
Rides & Races was created by this same method only months into the existence of the whole website. The 'general' category was swamped by rides, so it got it's own forum.
I'm reluctant to end up with hundreds of fora like BikeForums.net or something... just show me there's enough demand, and you've got it. I hate forum graveyards you see, and if there's enough demand I'm going to be as happy as larry that I can offload the management of it to you.

I have no issue with you having a FGF subforum. It makes it far easier for me to ignore it than ignoring individual threads. What I have issue with is putting BMX in a subforum that I will be ignoring. As you know I have no interest in tricks on big bikes. For me personally it's 20" wheels or nothing. Leave the little bikes in general, they're doing no harm there.

it's the correct way to go about starting a sub-forum. :p

Can the two not co-exist peacefully? I have lots of love for bmx, being that I rode one for years myself, I don't understand the hate from the bmx scene for other people doing tricks on bikes, not talking about you specifically, but you only have to visit the come up or bmx-forums.com to see it everywhere. Anyways Social Group is set up, must be awaiting approval or something.

I know about trick track, It's a cool forum, it has its place, and its there for people that want to use it. I'm not trying to create a whole new forum, simply a space within this forum for people who are into "that kind of riding".

James - It's already been done:
http://www.tricktrack.org/forums/But by that logic, so has LFGSS: Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Bike Forums
I don't mind creating something specific to London at the top level, I also don't mind duplicating what might exist elsewhere... providing people prove (through usage) that there is a demand for it.
Should people vote with their feet and choose tricktrack... then cool. If the choose LFGSS... then cool. If they choose both... then cool. Neither... cool too.
It's all good, and I'm happy to provide the means for people who want to use them.

James I hear what your saying and I'm involved in the tricks scene up in Manchester. But I agree with Murtle on this one. Lets just set up a sub forum for tricks? I'll do it if you like...?
As the "scene" grows bigger and bigger, I feel we are generating and welcoming more and more trick/street/freestyle riders on this forum, and as lovely as it is that we have a few dedicated threads, I think it would be really nice to have a dedicated forum, where we could maybe post tutorials, pictures, videos discussion on trick specific bike setups etc etc, without cluttering up the general forum enviroment, it could also be a great place to could combine the pretty decent amount of tricks specific threads that we already have floating around, tricks and skids, trixiedix, sunday sessions, bmx videos, etc etc.
The polo boys have their dedicated section, and I think it would be great if the tricks side of fixed gear/single speed riding could be treated as equal, as I am sure there are a lot of guys on here that would welcome this as an addition to the forum. Anyways, I thought i'd post up a poll to get the general consensus on this, since we live in a democracy after all ;)
