Some have asked if anyone has used level components hubs. I have a level rear hub and I have never seen any hub that compares in terms of strength or quality. I have been cycling for a life time and building bikes as a hobby for a lot of years but level hubs are something else! :)

I just saw these. I know bike 14 had some in too.
Goldtec Pro Track hubs (not cheap):

Does anyone know how much Phil hubs weigh? If no exact figure a guesstimate (i.e. are they light, medium, heavy for hubs) would be ok?

Does it matter? You could just go for a poo before riding. Instant weight saving.

They are substantial blocks of solid aluminium with a hole for an axle through them.

im about to order a rear wheel, i THINK the goldtec rear track hub on a CX33 would be a good combo... im not a fan of deep v's.
anyone think this'll be a decent combo?
also.. to goldtec/BETD make build decent custom wheels?
-
• #108
^ yeah that would be a solid wheel, but I have not had a wheelset built up by BETD so cannot comment. ring them up if you want assurances they're a very decent bunch.

aye, i've bought stuff from them over the years of riding mountainbikes. Good guys + great gear.. just no experience in their hubs or wheelbuilding!

sorted, will order later on.

• #113
remember the chainline tho...it won't give you track standard 42mm
-
• #114
would it be closer to 44mm? what would i need to do with my crankset to get a straight chainline?
-
• #115
search for transmission database and they are 45mm AFAIK
On a separate note I was thinking today that Goldtec should really build seatposts and stems to rival Thomson. I'd rather buy British.

argh, dillemas.. i could get the nice pro hub and get a 42mm chainline and work well just now.. or get a new b/b.
cheers for the help, you've stuck me on the right track as well. Need to sell a few things so got a week or two till the purchase :)

nout wrong with the goldtec/cxp33 builds, been running mine for 2 years.
-
• #118
would the 3mm chainline difference be that bad?
-
• #119
not if you ensure your b/b is 6mm longer
-
• #120
depends how obsessed you are with chainline, sure it will run but may result in quicker wear and more noise.
-
• #121
Not really, just wondered. Probably going to get some anyway.
@adoubletap thanks that is helpful.

Has anyone got any experience with Brick Lane Bike Hubs?
Do they make em themselves? Are they any good? -

Cheapest - Zenith £40.80 [pair]; Formula/Xero £39.45 [pair]; SJS £39.99 [pair]
Does anyone know the axle length on these? trying to work out whether they're able to be spaced out to 130mm without running out of threads for the axle nuts.
Some websites say yes, some don't say at all, so would be good to know etc.

I make the axle length on Formula/System Ex 160-161mm, and on Miche Primato 171mm. With the supplied tracknuts fingertight against the locknuts, there's 11mm of exposed thread on the Miches, and 6 on the Formulas.

I presume that's on each side?
edit: thanks - very useful information!
I was introduced to a revolutionary piece of kit yesterday, by a film director from Sweden. It was on his beautiful Brompton.
Its the Pantour Suspension Hub. Its available through Kinetics in Scotland.
