I get the impression some people are going SSOB (SingleSpeedOneBrake) for 'the look'.
This is stupid (its just my opinion, but I'll stand by it)
If you ride brakeless, without a helmet, and with 1" wide bars TBH I could'nt give a flying feck, as long as its been considered with regards to skill level, conditions, safety etc. I'm willing to bet there are loads of people on here riding safer than me, without the front caliper, pricey helmet etc.. I use. Simply because they are better riders, and know the limitations of themselves and their bike.
I dont care what set-up people ride, as long as they have considered it for the right reasons.
Why should you care either way so long as they are not a danger to you? And who are you to assess whether someone else possesses such skill level, in the conditions for that purpose?
When I ride SS I ride without a rear brake. It's a track frame, I can't fit a rear brake.
Now the circumstances under which I choose to do this, and my level of skill, blah blah blah... well it's all my business. Who granted you with any interest in my choice to ride like this? Would you care to say I am a danger to you? Upon what basis?
As for CrazyJames's sense of pity at seeing such a thing... wow, patronising.
What gets me is that you are all ranting and raving about it... maybe we should do a survey? "How many times have you been hit by an out of control SS rider with no rear brake?".
I mean... consider what you're saying, were you not once a newbie yourself? Are you now the font of all cycling knowledge and wisdom? Are you not still learning each day like the rest of us?
I don't really care whether or not someone has a rear brake or whatever their setup is, I do think that the kinda of posturing and ranting on the forum is reflective of a narrow view though... so shoot me if I call you all on it.

It's all cycling, it's all good.
