  • Applied the HTFU method aged 29 and 364 days. From 30-a-day to nothing. Done.

I'd given up several times before this but, looking back, i didn't really want to give up and ended up smoking again. Not a fun of gum, reading the Allen Carr book worked for 6 months, the Allen Carr day course thing worked for about 2 days, other willpower attempts lasted anything from 2 hours to 2 months.

However, I'd always said I wouldn't smoke when I got to 30 and found it annoyingly easy, probably because I actually wanted to give up this time. The skull-fuckingly horrible hangover I had on the day of my actual birthday (having had many beers the night before) helped.

No cravings, no pills, no pseudo-science. Coming up to 3 years now.

I don't believe the "I'm a non-smoker" stuff though. I'm definitely an "ex-smoker", always will be. Non-smokers can have a few drags of a ciggy and never be tempted. Ex-smokers will always have to be careful; one pissed "i can prove how much I've given up by having a tab" and i'd be back on 30-a-day in no time.

Good luck. No matter how cool smoking is (and it is), you're better off without it.
