That's basically how I view it.
It's technically similar to a bulletin board system run by a telecommunications company.
It's socially similar to a view large pub with people able to almost omnisciently participate in all of the drunken conversations.
I get to be both the sysadmin guy and the landlord. Generally all I want is the tech stuff to work, and the pub to have a nice murmur of good conversation and fun times.
