  • That is one of the best bikes of its type i have seen. Awesome

  • Managed to get the Dolan finished tonight I think it turned out ok

  • ^^^^^^^^

    nice bike

    I've nearly finished mine
but i don't have a proper track hub i just welded my freewheel together to try out fix gear and i Love it but its come undone now
But i just had a thought
If i have an old disc compatible front hub could i drill some holes in a cog and lace it to my wheel??
I've seen them on ebay but i wasn't sure if i should just splash out on a proper track hub and cog?
I have a full engineer shop at college so im sure id be able to do it next week sometime

any thoughts on what i should do?

  • mate don't weld it! there are cheap hubs that are reliable enough, such as the SJS/Formula/System EX jobbies;

    http://www.theoldbicycleshowroom.co.uk/system-ex-alloy-36-hole-rear-fixed-fixed-track-hub-898-p.asp

    or two for £40;

  • now it's finished!

Practically perfect, can't think of anything I'd do differently. Jealous.

  • mate don't weld it!

I only did it to see what it was like before going all out and relacing my wheels I did realize it would come undone but i just didn't know when
    and cheers for that to
I need to work out whats a good gear to before i buy a cog

  • Awesome cheers
I'll try and russel up some dosh to buy one
    lace it up Meself
gotta be easier than a bmx wheel surely

DIY man, go for it. if it fails then go to the shops and get a system x (or onone for £15)

or get one of these for your disc hub...http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shopdisc.html

  • **Eingang, that is perfect - no other words!

    What size is it?
    **

  • seat tube 59cm, top tube 56cm, wheelbase (?) 96cm

  • Your legs must be as long as mine! 59cm and that much post out...

  • Sorry to bring this up and its probably the wrong thread but here i go
A friend of mine is going on at me about threading the race on the non-driveside of a cassete hub for a track cog
I'm sure this wouldn't work but hes adamant
please someone tell him its a silly idea
    cheers

  • Its a silly idea.

Especially when you can buy a track hub for less than £30.

  • Potetskrel - I have a 32h System-Ex fix/fix rear track hub. About 9months old. Treated well.

Everyone else - how much do these go for second hand? Don't wanna overcharge but don't want it going for nowt either. :)

  • Wools, I'd be interested in that too, if Potetskrel doesn't want it?

  • @ Eingang and Teddy...
Your new builds are THE FREAKiN LiCK!

  • Your legs must be as long as mine! 59cm and that much post out...

    i ride a 62 with that much seat tube...eek.

  • You, snowy, is next in line. What were you thinking £$€-wise? Please note that they were involved in a wee accident with a cab and had to be cut out of a taco'd rim. LBS said there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. Only reason why I didn't reuse it was because I needed a wheel quicktime and they didn't have any Open Pros in 32h so I got a 36h Sys-Ex/Open Pro instead. Just thought you should know like...just in case. :)

  • cheers wools, have pm'd ya.

  • Hi all

I've now finished my fixie build project, based on a (I'm fairly certain) late 1970's Holdsworth Mistral frame that I had resprayed at Argos Racing Cycles in Bristol.

As you will see in the photo, it's got two brakes. This is because:

    1. I live on the edge of the Cotswolds and it's pretty hilly here
    2. I'm a big girl's blouse

I took it for a quick spin up and down the road when I'd finished it, it felt fantastic! Looking forward to a longer ride.

If anyone is interested / as sad as me, I've put more photos and the project saga on my website: http://www.charleshookfrancis.co.uk/Fixie_Bike_Build.html

Hoping for a summer full of fixed fun!

    DA cranks (thanks guy!)
goldtec front hub on CXP33 hipster laced
    nitto b125s
    other stuff-

    saddle with cut out bit!

my wall isn't long enough for photos!
