Jammy: (if you fancied trying some full length ones and need fixings) you might find useful the stays for Salmon mudguards that Francis Thurmer sells here http://www.cyclesplus.co.uk/ . You need to phone him he's a proper luddite. They have a single piece of steel wire that wraps around the back of the guard, through a draw bolt held by a flat nut underneath a 5mm ish hole in the guard.
