  • Ok - that obvioulsy came out completely wrong. I have no hostility towards her - I think she cuts a pretty sad figure.

My point was meant to be that she pushed herself so hard into the media spotlight at the end, to the extent even Max Clifford was not comfortable with some of the decisions. It is the relentless reporting of this that seems to have got everyones knickers in a twist.
All of her adult life was spent in the media and as a result that's where all of her money came from. It not surprising she didn't know any other way to spend the last part of it.

Fair point, as it has been said, she had a pretty poor upbringing, no qualifications, it was either that or some shit job somewhere - I think she made the right decision.

Your point about John Diamond ending life in a dignified way (in the media) must be seen in context.

John Diamond was leaving his two children into the safe hands of a very wealthy extended family, an ex-chancellor of the Exchequer and Baron's daughter, Nigella Lawson a University of Oxford educated celebrity food writer, journalist and broadcaster. Owner of a highly successful kitchenware range, a successful TV career, a successful author . . . and so on . . . . (that she later married into the Saatchi dynasty might give us a clue as to the circles she moves in).

This is where John Diamond knew he was leaving his children, into this privileged environment. He can well afford to check out in a way that ticks all the correct Guardian reader boxes.

What did Jade Goody have to weigh up when told she would not live to see her kids grow up ?

Jade Goody was leaving her two children to a fragmented and dysfunctional family, a crack using drug addict mother, a dad who overdosed and died in a Kentucky Fried Chicken toilet and a husband who is variously in and out of prison or on license for ABH, and so on. This is where Jade Goody knew she was leaving her children.

Hardly a fair contest, John Diamond may not have done any of the things the middle class find so distasteful, but I think he could afford to check out with all the style of an educated, successful and literate journalist, safe in the knowledge that his affairs would be taken care for him.

I think Jade did pretty well, she checked out having gathered as much money for her kids future as she could from people who wanted to read about this kind of crap, made sure none of it was to go to her criminally violent husband, she managed to not become a drug addict like most of her close family, or turn to crime and she looked as if she enjoyed herself for a while in her short life.
