I've got a matt black Soloist.
They where the bikes that made Cervelo what it is today, but no one really bought them. So mine is special.

I like the look of them - just so many men out on really expensive bikes puffing and panting. I was stopped at the side of the road putting on my mitts when two blokes rode past me. I'm sure one of them did an homage to Fabregas by spitting on the road just past me. I suddenly had a Kevin Keegan rant moment and was forced to catch them and got past them.

Its happening more and more in Dublin too!
I was in a city centre bike shop as a "large" man was getting fitted to an all carbon road bike.
I had to go look at random bikes to stop myself chuckling in front of him.
Its one thing having the terrible cyclists on the standard cheap mtbs etc. but this is getting ridiculous. -

I have both an expensive bike and a cheap bike. It doesn't make any difference, sadly. I end up puffing and panting no matter which one I'm on. But the expensive one is more comfy.

So should fatties just resign themselves to the fact they are big and unfit and do nothing about it? Maybe they should only be allowed shite bikes? Sounds like jealousy to me.

Credit crunch innit, everyone needs a carbon fiber Cervelo so they can save money on petrol.

Yes you are.

Now I have nothing against people getting fit, I forgot to mention in my post he hadnt a clue about bikes other than that the one he was buying was fast and expensive.

i still reckon Colnago is the true champion "accountant's bike".

I don't have a clue about anything. But given a choice, I'd rather have something that was fast and expensive than not.

+1 to riding one if you could afford one.

I remember being on holdiday in Kefalonia (Thats how THEY spell it so its right!) in 2003 and I say this Litespeed Sirius (one of the first alu/carbon mixers) outside a shop. Then this guy in full Cannondale Saeco team lycra comes out.
Feck me this guy was fat. Think Chris Waller and maybe make him more doughy. Obviously the lycra didn't fit and there where a few boobs sticking out between the lycra top and bottom.
ShUdEr even just thinking about it!

I'm an accountant and I take offence to that comment you cunt.
I would never be seen riding a colnago, they're cheap and shit. It's alllll about the Look 595.
Get you're facts straight before you go spouting diatribe like this.

i dont know about that. i think colnago is the reserve of the bike enthusiast, im not sure anyone from a non bike background would know much about them.
cervelo make great bikes, but most people buy them becuase thier expensive and look like theyre from space. people that know nothing about bikes and have a big wedge will just walk into a shop and choose it becuase of the way it looks.
my LBS pretty much makes its money from building £££ TT bikes for middle aged guys with too much money and not enough time/skill/fitness. it does make me sick that a guy can spend 5-10k on a TT bike when hes 35, has a beer gut and only rides slow times in TT twice a year and the rest of the time cruises around in his mercedies. i ride my bike everyday for at least 30miles and commute everywhere on it so im obviosuly envious. my bike is probably worth less than his pedals, but i have a much closer attachment to it than this guy ever will with his multi K folly.
alot of these guys are more focused on selecting parts and paying somone else to put it all togather for them than they about riding. i think this fucking lame, and makes me sick when im struggling just to afford a new chain and brake pads. but at the same time they can spend thier money on whatever they like. if you can afford a nice bike, why get a shit one.
a guy has just ordered in the new super record groupset (dont like the marble effect though) which i saw today, so i am pretty bitter at the moment. i want that.
i forget the quote, but enzo ferrari once said somthing to the effect of: "we make cars for young sexy exciting people, but the only people that can buy them are old codgers trying relive thier youth. "

What's 'codger' in Italian? :)

I ride a £4k road bike. I drink a shit load of beer. hippy is fat. I might only ride two TTs this year.
But I'd put money on me riding more than you do. I also purchased that bike quite sensibly and got a good deal on it.
Don't get jealous because some guy has a more expensive bike than you.. you don't know anything about them. Just beat them. If you can't beat them, be quiet.

It's directly related to cars!!
People who buy BMW M3's buy Cervelos
People who buy Maserati's buy Colnago's
People who buy Morgan's buy Hetchin's
:)

I own a Cervelo. I don't own a BMW.

it's odd,but nobody seems to object to middle-aged men buying porsches and ferraris, even though they clearly can't drive like lewis Hamilton. But if anyone who isn't grand tour material dares to buy a ( relatively cheap) top end racing bike, they get all the bile and vitriol.
the simple fact is that all these companies, cervelo included, would go out of business tomorrow if the 'fat accountants' stopped buying their bikes.
Now shut up. You've been fucking told.

do you? tasty.
Went out at 9.30 this morning to sort out the new flat in sunny Shepperton. Decided to ride from there along the Thames to Richmond. Fuck me the amount of Cervelo's I saw. Nice bikes but aside from the roadies, there appeared to be a lot of white middle aged men riding them very slowly and out of breath.
