I should also add that I've been lent these Specialized shoes with this cleat:
They don't work together - but can I buy and fit the cleat that will?
Thanks

yes you can fit SPD cleats to those. the price has just doubled from 10 quid to 20 quid in most shops though. I have some slightly used SPD cleats you can have for free if you can be bothered to collect from wallington, SM6

You would be better off buying new time atacs and keeping the cleats.
I bet the retention on those beat-up old pedals is for shit.
You can get Time alums BIN on Ebay for £24.

Could just get these cleats to start with £7.70, although as 3mask says the spring mechanism might be well worn (SPD pedals start at £15, and usually include cleats. So could be worth replacing both at the same time)).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not the multi release cleats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't buy the multi release cleats, they are designed to be easy to pull out of the pedals, not ideal on a fix wheel bike to put it mildly. Buy the standard cleats and set the release tension low if you're not sure about using SPDs. Then when you are used to it you can wind up the release tension.

Just bought a new bike after my last got nicked, anyway - it's got some old clipless pedals that the were thrown.
I am completely new to clipless pedals - I didn't realise how many fucking cleat/pedal combos there was out there! So - can anyone tell me what shoe/cleat I'd need for this badboy?
Many thanks!
