Can't you make it say "Show me the money... Baby Lord Jesus"
Rik has a point but its contentious... we need need to know if we have raised enough but it would be good to have extra money over for further upgrades/hidden costs (like a slush fund) to hitting target could mean we have to raise more later in the year.
But not having the target means we can’t put something like this on the forum front page!
I had one of those for the Bowlie funding thing. Pain in the arse it was... I had to update a local database every time a donation came in. It meant that it was nearly always slightly out of date, and that I was spending tons of time updating it.
The target was the CDN costs... £180-ish (or whatever that dollar amount I said earlier was). But any extra just goes into the paypal account and sits there covering server fees each month.
So there's no top to the fund raising thermometer, as any extras just support the usual costs. Today was about doing something to pay for this exceptional one-off cost, but if there is extra then it reduces pressure to panic about the reserves in the paypal and adsense revenues (which are still declining, have been since last September when the crunch happened).
