A 'heads up' for this overnight ride from London to the coast. I've done it once and it was ace.

I've spoken to a few people about this. I'm up for giving it a go but I don't know how likely it is that I'll actually make it. It's pretty insane.

No entry fee, no support, start at a pub in London Fields for a swift one... ride over night until you reach the sea.

What happens when you get to the sea is anyone's guess...

no entry fee. you give a couple of quid for the route card. also if you want the bus back to london that'll cost. reckon about £25. I cycled to Ipswich to get a train to Cambridge cos the train was full at the nearer stops.

Hey, I was just kidding. I just thought it was cool that within 35 seconds of a reasonably serious video there's a bunch of dudes kicking it in hoods and caps. Nothing to be offended by!

Jeez, skinny jeans, crusty Vans, hoodie, they missed out obscure band t-shirt and plaid shirt... I'm the biggest wannabe hipster there is.

I think he's pissed because he himself is in the frame at 35 seconds..possibly? plus being called a hipster means your saying they can't ride long distances, possibly. dunno?

There's no chance I'd be seen dead in those shades. Unless I got to wear them exclusively indoors.

all being well, yes. you up for it?

I've done it the past three years, so FWIW here's my advice:

1) Fitness not important - just go slower.
2) Bring more clothes than you think you'll need - your metabolism slows right down overnight and even in high summer it's pretty chilly at 2am. This goes about octuple if there's any risk of rain.
3) Make damn sure you're on a comfy bike - I did it the first time on a Dahon Helios SL ultra light folder with straight alloy forks and mangled the nerves in my hands. Not fun.
4) Bring lots of inner tubes - patching in the dark/wet is not fun.
5) Bring a spare tyre - I got a big mid-tread split on the 2007 ride and can attest that improvising a boot and riding the last umptythree miles ultra-carefully is a great bore.
6) Proper lights that actually light the road up. City lights are wing mirrors on your submarine when descending at speed in the pitch dark.
