Is it possible to set off a speed camera whilst on a bicycle? I've tried, several times, but failed! Although I don't have a speedo so couldn't tell how fast I was going!

Not true, unless in a bylaw area, such as Richmond park. Speed limits on normal highways do NOT apply to bicycles :-)
I over took over two community support officers on those 50cc Scooters they patrol on. They caught me up at a traffic light, pulled me over citing the fact I was speeding as the cause.

They were wrong.

Nope, something to do with your size and the camera not be set to react to something that small...or something like that...something!

I was doing a quick google on bicycle regs and found this amusing article from someone who doesn't like cyclists, thought I would share

There are approximate UK equivalents to this site. I won't link to them here, as LFGSS has such a high Google rating, and they don't deserve any publicity. :)

Well I think it is a UK site but they clearly don't like cyclists. I just found the article completely absurd in its hatred of cyclists even though the author claims to never of met.
A cool logical analysis it is not, I do hope the fellow isn't serious about these scribblings. -

Ah P.J O'Rourke. A very funny writer. I particularly liked The Bachelor Home Companion

Wrong. It IS possible to set them off.
BMMF and I both set one off on the drop down into Brighton on one of the forum rides (when 50x14 made his debut perhaps?).

speed cameras need to have a reflective surface to bounce off of, so it's not a definate that you will; set off a speed camera on a bike.

So Hippy rides around with a mirror on his back? Interesting, no doubt so riders left in his screaming wake are forced to witness their own looks of tortured pain as he leaves them for dust.....or something like that anyway.

Huge lols.
St. Paul, in his First Epistle to the Corinthians, 13:11, said, "When I became a man, I put away childish things." He did not say, "When I became a man, I put away childish things and got more elaborate and expensive childish things from France and Japan."

Bear in mind that most car speedos (unless you happen to be a copper or have it calibrated) over read by 5-10% so you were probably doing more like 28mph max, there or thereabouts, which is still pretty damn quick though.

Managed 43.3 mph down a steep ass hill today. Was wearing a t-shirt which was flapping around a lot, I reckon i would have hit 45 easily if I was in a jersey. Some silly bitch pulled out in front of me when I was doing about 38 on the second steep bit so I couldn't give it another go. :(
My top speed on a flat sprint is about 35 mph, almost dead afterwards if I push that hard though. Normal bike not TT btw.

is that fixed or geared? if it's fixed what gearing?
Yeah me and my geared hybrid riding mate thought if we were close togther enough, and matched our speeds, then we would present an RCS together as one rather than two smaller seperate results that would get squelched. Unfortunately, that didn't work... So we're trying to bully our mate who also rides a geared hybrid into riding down with us and riding 3 abreast. He's too pussy though :(
