  • I havn't been in Norwich for a while but I've been told about Cycle Repubic. Is it the one off London Street near the book shop?

  • Well actually I was looking for a bit of advice about what to go for; chainlines etc. Of course they won't have much fixed stuff on the shelf, but pretty much any LBS in the country can get you anything in a couple of days. Nice to know these guys are proper cyclists, and in no doubt at all that they know more than most who go in there, judging by the customers I saw in there (including myself). And of course I didn't say that they didn't know anything. Couldn't get near the counter so I didn't ask, but I did get a lot of someone's time somewhere else. However I couldn't escape the feeling that CR was a bit like being in a Porsche dealers.

And yes JR, it is opposite the back of Waterstone's, once Ottakars.

Sorry you found the store busy and couldn't talk to anyone, oh and just for the record I'm a very happy CR customer and have no ties with them. But if they were busy and you couldn't or didn't want to wait to talk to someone thats not their fault. I'm glad you got PR's time and were well treated, they are a great shop.

Oh and as for CR looking like a Porsche dealers, whats wrong with that, or would you rather LBS's all looked dark, drab and boring places where you feel that some dodgy deals are going down? Whats wrong with bring cycle stores into the 21st century? other stores in others lines of businesses have done the same and helped give their trade a better image, cycling is meant to be the way forward so bring store forward, those who can't or won't move with the times deserve to die and close, and I speak as a owner of several businesses, move forward or sit and die, there is no middle ground and you should not want that either.

  • Jickstumps, dude fixed is spin to win. Fairplay if you are spinning out all the time 42/16, but high cadence is the name of the game- with a 90 rpm= 19.something miles an hour which is fine for me. Also consider your pedal stroke: applying power in the downstroke, pulling back with the ankle(like scraping snable droppings off your shoe) then pulling up (best used with cleats) then relaxing the leg at the top of the stroke and repeat...
In the words of mad max " I'll see you on the road".

  • Snarble, having two conversations with you at the same time. Yeah, spin to win, I agree. I just want something a bit harder on the legs. I think I'll use my flop for a bigger cog so I can feel it when I'm having a high energy day. That's the ratio I'm on but I get to 25mph and can't physically move my legs any faster! haha.
Altthough, I just moved off the super light frame onto my Raleigh frame and I'm feeling the difference. I think there might actually be something wrong, felt like I have brakes on the bike that were constantly on!
    I'll check it tomorrow....

  • Thanks for the tips also! I have nice sticky pedals so the bottom pull isn't too bad.

  • Fur real, I keeeeed, I keeeeeed you little hip. We come in all shapes and sizes it's true. I mentioned F&B brakes purely as identifiable factors, rather than a fixed quip.

May kate turn me into a rug if I lie.....

  • Im in Norwich - been a roadie for years and just got my fuji track - off to pedal revs and freemans to get the bits to make it road legal today :D

  • Shalom to the magdalen st rider I passed by secondhandland: Some kind of white frame (leader?) Bells helmet and courier bag, I checked six just before I tried to slide swobo in for a landing outside Tesco's.

  • I may well turn up at the fat cat tonight.
although i have a broken toe so i'm a little slow at the moment and I'll probably be slightly inebriated after the pub.

  • Good to meet you guys, all you others that said you'd come are rubbish. Loads of people announced on the FB site that they'd be there.... Where were you all? It was a good ride, lots of near misses, average speed of 25Mph and ended up in the well suggested makeshift velodrome where we exchanged goods and our bikes turned boots up!
Was a really nice ride, I suggest that you you all come next time... We'll meet up a bit earlier and have a longer amount of time to get to know eachother!
Also, just a quick note about the tension on the board?!?! Where's it all coming from? I just read through and I think people are misunderstanding eacother. We're all friends here aye! Personally I think there's too much snobbery in the fixed section of cycling, really though we're just a bunch of mates who have something in common! Less of the tensness aye!

(Probably caused more by saying that)
Seeyall on the slippery road, j

  • Spotted today on Barn Rd, dude with cap and silver bike.I gave the power of snook fist, by way of saying hihi. Snarble was on his commute migration, with old red karrimor jacket +ironically recut daysack with just 1 strap.

  • I've lived in Norwich all my life.. Riding a white frame with crome forks and woodgrain deep-v's.

after sitting in an office all last year I just landed the perfect job where I get to ride about town all day on my pride and joy, delivering baguettes and getting paid for it!

  • What ratios are you guys riding around Narwich with? I'm thinking of converting my 15 year old Titanium Raleigh M-Trax frame, not sure what gearing to go for though...

  • well norwich is pretty flat! so go low, I would say. I ride 52x17 it is a bit too low I think. it is about 80 gear inches, hill really arnt easy. 75 to 78 would be much more comfortable! so maybe a 46x16 or something. Hope this helps.

  • Anyone know a decent wheel builder in Norwich/Norfolk? I'm looking for a 20" flip flop for my swift folder (going to get that fixed and then spend time on the M-Trax project). I can buy all of the parts online but need someone to put it all together!

  • mick madgett in diss, bit of a way but the best.!

  • Thanks :-)

  • try revolutionz in pottergate, it's a bmx and snowboard store but they're very nice and very good at building wheels. 20" is the same size as a bmx wheel so they won't have a problem building yours up. They're pretty cheap too, Give them a call

  • I know the one, never thought of a BMX store, but yes in fact my current wheels are BMX with a widened axle (my frame is 132.5mm so it can take 130 or 135, but not 120...)

  • they were originally set up as a bmx store on timberhill but then the guy who set it up was bought out by snowfit from brundall and their bmx stock has been slightly sidelined to snowboarding and clothing but it's still hanging in there haha

  • [SIZE=2]Valkyries!!!!!!!! Ride of the damned (forum at 8.30) Get your Marilyn face on, and we'll commit you to celluloid.

  • Norwich FC - Going dooooooooooooooooown :D

  • I <3 madgett's. Just got my impossible-to-find old-stock pasela 27" x 1" tyres from him. I said on the phone 'oooh I could kiss you!' think he was a bit freaked out.

I'm in London btw. I think I'd like to move to EA one day. Tell me why I shouldn't! Or should.

  • I'm from Norwich, didn't start riding fixed till I moved to London a year and a half ago. Might come back with my bike at some point. (Hi benjaminbunny, it's Jop)
