I used to ride brakeless and it taught me to be super alert at all times and really anticipate the road ahead. Now that I have a brake I've kept that level of anticipation and so rarely touch it. Infact, apart from when I've just been lazy and tired, I've only really used it twice to avoid a pulling-out-without-looking van/bus.
